Barbara Mortensen Morrey passed away peacefully at her home in Richland,
Washington on Friday, July 29, 2011 after a short bout with cancer. Barbara
was born in Monroe, Utah on November 17, 1928, the daughter of James
Vernal & Norma Swindle Mortensen. Her mother was taken by cancer when
Barbara was 14 years old. Her second mother was Melba Erickson
Mortensen. Barbara graduated from South Sevier High School and attended
Utah State University and Brigham Young University.

Barbara married John R. Morrey in the Manti LDS Temple, Manti, Utah, on
March 14, 1952. After faithfully supporting her husband through college and graduate school by
working outside jobs and bearing three children, she and her husband moved to Richland, Washington
in December, 1957, where she lived, with short exceptions, the rest of her life. Her occupation was a
homemaker. She worked briefly at Battelle Northwest as a team leader.

Barbara is survived by Vernal Joseph (brother) & Anora Mortensen; Fred James (brother) and Sylvia
Mortensen; John R (husband) Morrey; John D. (son) and Lynne Morrey; Stephen R (son)and Karen
Morrey; Dianna (daughter) and Niel Campbell; Eugene V.(son) and Kathy Morrey; and Stacie
(daughter) and David Cheney. She is also survived by twenty five grandchildren and nine great
grandchildren.

Barbara was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over the years she has
served faithfully in many church positions, including being the wife of a bishop, stake president and the
first mission president in Romania, caring for some 250 missionaries and helping to establish auxiliary
programs and humanitarian efforts in the country.

Funeral services will be held in the Richland LDS Stake Center, 1720 Thayer Drive, Richland Washington
at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 6, 2011. Viewing will be the Stake Center from 12:00 to 2:00 PM.

Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Richland.
