HELP FOR SAMOA
IN RESPONSE TO THE DISASTER CAUSED BY THE EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI IN SAMOA, WHICH WIPED OUT MANY VILLAGES AND TAKEN MANY LIVES, WE AS A COMMUNITY AND INDIVIDUALS WOULD LIKE TO TAKE ACTION TO SHOW OUR SUPPORT AND CARE FOR THE PEOPLE OF SAMOA.
YOUR HELP WILL TARGET THE PEOPLE LIVING IN THE SOUTH COASTAL PARTS OF SAMOA, ESPECIALLY, THE VILLAGE OF SALEAUMUA. MOSTLY ALL THE VILLAGES IN SOUTH COASTAL PART OF SAMOA NO LONGER EXIST. THE DEAD HAVE MASS SERVICES AND ARE BURIED IN MASS GRAVES. PEOPLE ARE NOW LIVING MOSTLY UNDER COVERED TARPS PROVIDED BY THE GOVERNMENT AND THE RED CROSS. WE PLAN TO LOAD A ONE 40FT CONTAINER HERE IN PROVO AND SHIP TO SAMOA IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS.
A REPRESENTATIVE WHO IS A NATIVE OF SALEAUMUA FROM PROVO WILL TRAVEL TO SAMOA TO RECEIVE AND DISTRIBUTE DONATIONS AS THEY ARRIVE IN THE CONTAINER. AS WE ASSESS THE HELP THAT IS NEEDED, THESE ARE THE ITEMS THAT WILL GREATLY BENEFIT AND HELP THEM TO REBUILD.
* Clothes and shoes for children and adults (preferably no snow coats but light jackets, blankets, toys, beds, sheets, hygiene items, first aid kits, towels, etc.)
* Food (flour, sugar, rice, peanut butter, jam, can food, water, etc.)
* Generator, chainsaw, nails, hammers, tools used to build,
* Tents, tarps, cooking utensils, kerosene lamps, stoves for cooking, grills, propane tanks, etc.
* Monetary donation will be greatly needed and appreciated to help cover the cost for the container which is $5,400 and purchase building materials in Samoa. An account # 59374 to help Samoa under Laumatia is available at Alpine Credit Union for monetary contributions.
We appreciate John Curtis, the Haws, Dr. Langi, Mouga,The Tongan Society of America, neighborhood communities and all of you as individuals for your generous support to help the people of Samoa especially the village of Saleaumua, Aleipata District.
Please bring all donation items to 1473 W 1970 N Grandview in Provo by Oct 14-17. The container will be loading on the 15-17 and needed to be picked up on the 19th in the morning to make the cut off shipping schedule from California.
