Turns out, the Wall Street Journal website picked up that story from BYU:
Send In the Mormons
http://opinionjournal.com/best/?id=105001752#mormon
Patras Bukhari, a graduate student at Brigham Young University, is translating the Book of Mormon into Urdu. Bukhari, a Pakistani-born former Catholic, says he hopes to familiarize the people in his native Pakistan with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This sounds like a great idea; we hope someone's at work on an Arabic translation as well.
From the next issue:
Send In the Mormons--II

There's no better way to draw a flurry of reader e-mail than to write about the Mormons. Our item yesterday suggesting wistfully that someone translate the Book of Mormon into Arabic drew 16 responses from readers pointing out that such a translation is already available. You can order it online here from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a mere $2.50 (a bargain at twice the price). And here's a handy list of all the languages in which it is available, including Korean. A Farsi translation, and the entire axis of evil would be covered.
Now all we need to do is flood Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon and so forth with copies, and with Mormon missionaries, and soon the Mideast will be as peaceful as Utah. The only drawback is it'll still be difficult to get a drink.

I just got a message saying that they finally called another Texan to the S'pore mission. Good thing, because somebody's got to fill the gap that was created when I left in August 2001. Long live the Republic of Texas!!!

Patras Bukhari hopes to bring peace and the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ back to his home country of Pakistan one day.
Bukhari, 33, a graduate student from Lahore, Pakistan, is majoring in educational leadership.
Bukhari has spent the last five years translating the Book of Mormon into Pakistan's official language of Urdu to help the people there become more familiar with the church.
Bukhari's wife Shanaz, who is also from Lahore, Pakistan, said they became acquainted with the church through a friend who was not a member of the church.
"A friend of mine gave me a copy of the Book of Mormon, I read it, and got baptized," Patras said.
Bukhari said that when he was baptized, there were missionaries in Pakistan, but they were couple missionaries. He said right now, though, there aren't any missionaries there.
"We have seven branches and one district," Bukhari said.
Bukhari said he was the first Pakistani District President.
He has translated all of the Book of Mormon, but he his putting the finishing touches on the book. He hopes that when he returns to Pakistan the book will be in print so that he will be able to share it with some people of his country.
This may difficult though, said Bukhari because 97 percent of the country is Muslim.
"In Pakistan they don't proselyte among Muslims because that is not allowed," Bukhari said.
He said that when he first read the Book of Mormon, he had to read it in English, since the book was not translated in any of the eight languages spoken in Pakistan. He also said most of the members of the district read the book in English before they were baptized.
Bukhari is the person that the church is utilizing to translate the Book of Mormon into Urdu. While Urdu is the official language of Pakistan, only eight percent of the people in Pakistan speak it. The eight languages spoken in the country are similar.
Bukhari said he is translating the book so that more Pakistanis can become familiar with it. He said translating the book is not his job. He said he was paid a little money by the church for doing it, but not very much.
Bukhari said that before he joined the church, he and his wife were members of the Catholic Church.
He said the he and his family have been in Prove for three years. He has three years left to study and once he is done, they will return to Pakistan. He said that he is pretty positive that by then, the Book of Mormon will be in print in Urdu.

I am elated to see the way the elders, sisters and couples are signing into this website. I hope the word is spread among the Alumni and the growth turns out to be spectacular.
