The following was sent by President Warren.
Thanks
Jan Dawson
We knew you would all be very interested in what is going on in the affected
areas-i.e. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia and the Maldives. The worst hit
is Sri Lanka, as you have been seeing on television.
We talked to Pres. & Sister Larkins, yesterday, and their report was that
ALL missionaries are safe and accounted for. The members, as of yesterday,
were ALL OK. However, in the member's case, later reports could come up with
casualties. There are several missing, but not at this time assumed to be
dead. There will be additional findings that will be coming in every day now
for some time before they really have the final numbers even close to
accurate. The material damage is almost over-whelming to the these poor
countries. The exception would be Malaysia, which is economically in much
better shape than Indonesia or Sri Lanka. The Church Humanitarian staffs are
involved, and in touch with Pres. Larkins, and will be on the scene
momentarily to start sorting out things , and to assist the Pres. Larkins.
Many supplies will be airlifted in to these hard hit areas during the next
days and weeks. It seems the Church membership has been blessed beyond
belief. Our buildings seem to be intact. Our Sri Lanka chapel is being used
by the missionaries to feed the many displaced members in the Colombo area.
As we hear more from Laura's sister and the President, we will let you know.
Sorry for you who had to call me, because of my tardiness in getting this
note out to all of you. I am sure you have all been as concerned and worried
as S/Warren and I have been.
WHAT A TRAGEDY, to people who have already so much sadness in their lives.
cheers, the warrens
