| Here's the story we wrote for the "Singapore Mission News" and "Church News" about the KK chapel dedication:
Borneo Island’s new “Beacon on the Hill”
Kota Kinabalu, the capital city of Sabah, East Malaysia, has long been known for its gorgeous views of the towering rugged peaks of Mount Kinabalu in the distance. Situated alongside the breathtaking palm-tree lined South China Sea on the Northwestern tip of Borneo Island Kota Kinabalu has a new landmark that is hard to miss. On April16, 2006 Singapore Mission President Gary L. Larkins dedicated the new Kota Kinabalu chapel, the second chapel in Malaysia. It is preceded only by the Miri, East Malaysia chapel to the South which was dedicated one month prior. The beautiful 2-story meetinghouse, located atop a prominent hill alongside a major road, was blessed to become a spiritual “beacon on the hill” in President Larkins dedicatory prayer. Many joyous tears were shed by the faithful members of the branch as the Young Men and Women sang a medley of “As Sisters in Zion” and “We’ll bring the World His Truth.” Seven years after purchasing the land and after countless setbacks in obtaining the proper building permits nothing could stop the Kota Kinabalu Saints from getting “their chapel” remarked Sabah District President Bill Telford and Kota Kinabalu Branch President Jopius Mekeg during the Easter Sunday dedication. Because of the explosive growth of the church in the last few years on Borneo Island members are anxious to see the Lord’s “beacons” continue to appear and shine brightly as the Lord’s work touches hearts and spreads across Southeast Asia. |
