We Felt Impressed 23 Feb 2004
Cape Town. It is an exiting city. Just about anything you find in a large city you can find in and around Cape Town. As a missionary serving in that area, I was about finding souls. Elder Blanchard had just left the area on a new assignment. I was sad to see him go, but looked forward to the new opportunity in Elder Probst. He came and instantly I found him to we stalwart in his pursuit of the gospel. With his drive and my experience in the area we were looking for changes to come. They did come, but for months no one accepted Baptism. ************************************************************************** With few weeks left in my mission, and no baptisms to record since Elder Probst came, I thought I was a failure in that aspect, and I suppose I was. I learned so much about loyalty and love from Elder Probst I counted my final term with him as a part of my conversion. I felt content enough. Days before we separated, we decided to Tract a neighborhood, we hand not consider. We had marginal success in teaching discussions, but still not prospects for membership. We tracted up and down several streets until we came to one in particular. I felt impressed to go to a specific house. So did Elder Probst. We began walking toward it and a man stood outside it and awaited our coming. As we approached he went inside his home. We thought that was a way of saying “Go Away!” We continued our visiting of several houses, getting referrals and appointments Then we came to the house we first felt impressed about. We determined not to go in, but the spirit urged us forward. We ignore any signs indicating a dog, which there was such a sign, and enter the quaint home with the neat fence around it. We were greeted with much anticipation. The man and his wife and kids listened intently and the spirit filled their home. They drank our message. As we prepared to leave, the man asked us why did we not come to his house earlier as we started to? We were honest. I told him that the spirit of God led us there, but we continued on after he went inside his house. I told him we returned and decided the final time to take the chance with the feeling. He then told us that he saw us around the neighborhood. He saw that we seemed to be visiting each house. He counted houses to see when we would get to him. He wanted to know what the well dress gentlemen were doing in the neighborhood. When we walked toward him, he was shocked and went into his house to prepare our arrival. He felt puzzled when we did not show. He thought he might have done something. He expressed that he was glad we came. If I remember correctly we were an answer to a heartfelt prayer of his. I went home after that experience. I don’t know if they accepted the gospel or not, but I learned a good lesson. Listen to the spirit as he directs. That time, we were lucky enough for the person to still be available, but next time it may not be so. We should act, and trust the Lord will see us through, after all we share in HIS work. We did not find many baptisms in my last area, but we did find treasures in people. Cape Town Truly is a place to find souls. I believe that Elder Probst and I help plant the seeds in lives of the members of that family. We felt impressed to go there. We left impressed with the way the spirit directed us.
