Comments:
Well, This is Derek (Elder Brooks). I've been home for six years almost. My wife and I just had a little girl, Emercynn and she's ten days old today. Mindy graduated from BYU in Music with a minor in MFHD (she's an exceptional violinist!) and I graduated in English with a minor in German. We first met the day I received my mission call in high school. My girlfriend introduced me to her. Two months after returning from Switzerland, I met her again, still while dating a friend of hers. Mindy was almost engaged, but broke it off one evening before coming over to visit my sister. (Mindy and Desire'e, my sister, have been good friend since high school.) They invited me out to dinner with them and as soon as I found out Mindy had broken it off with her boyfriend, I went directly over to my girlfriend's house and broke it off her (it wasn't going anywhere anyhow!). That night Mindy and I began dating and hanging out. At that point, however, there seemed to be no "green light" for the two of us. Mindy went on a mission a year later to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (It was strange because I saw her at the MTC when I first started teaching there). When she came back, the two of us went out again for old time's sake and had a good time. I was dating someone at the time, however, and Mindy was still adjusting to postmission life. The following summer, I ran into her at the MTC again; this time she was teaching. We went out again with my sister and brother-in-law and wa la! GREEN LIGHT! We were engaged three months later. Well, that is the long and short of it. I am teaching German to high school and elementary school students at Meridian while working on my teaching certificate at UVSC. I'm also an art consultant working for Repartee and hope to finish my student teaching March of 2007. Mindy and I hope to settle down in the American Fork, Highland area here in Utah. Mindy, Emercynn, and I are doing very well and are indeed grateful for the many blessings with which the Lord has blessed us.
