Comments:
I had absolutely the time of my life in the Zürich Mission. I've been back six or seven times, whenever my travels have taken me even as close as Frankfurt.
Last fall, I stayed for a week in Feldkirch with our friends Horst and Beate Veit, whom Elder Jürgen Klima and I had found and taught. The three of us drove up to Oberammergau for a weekend to take in the Passionsspiel. It was wonderful. I had just lost my Amy; sharing this beautiful public testimony of the Savior together and spending time with the wonderful children that the Veits have raised in the Church was a spiritual balm to my heart. Their middle child, Marvin, is the same age as our missionary, and is currently serving in the Russia Samara Mission, where he is absolutely kicking the Devil's Butt. While I was visiting his folks, he sent me a wonderful Missionary Thank You letter. This was a tremendous blessing to me at the time. Every missionary needs to get one letter like that.
After my mission, I spent about ten years working my way through college, including two years teaching German and four years teaching Swiss Culture at the MTC. Great job for a green RM!
I have served in the Navy for nearly 22 years. My wife, Amy Ellen Polson, and I have been incredibly happy thus far, but have also had our share of sorrows. For most of our time together, she suffered from a pituitary adenoma and its severe complications. I lost her last summer to a series of strokes. Thank God for the Resurrection and sealing covenants!
Because of the tumor, we were blessed with only one child, Benjamin Ur, but he has been an amazing joy and comfort to us both. Like Marvin Veit, he is likewise kicking the Devil's butt at present, but in the Boise Mission.
I've spent much of the last twenty-two years on the East Coast. I currently divide most of my time between Maryland, where I try to make a living teaching and consulting, and Great Lakes, IL, where I command a small Navy part-time (Reserve Component) Signals Intelligence organization.
