Taiwan KaoHsiung

We tracted all morning with little success except that we did teach a high school boy and his sister the first discussion. We continued to tract until late in the evening without success.

We were about ready to return home when we came to this shop with an older middle-aged man and his wife. He pulled up some chairs and we started to talk. He was a Jidu Jyau (Protestant) but said he didn't go because they all taught so many conflicting doctrines. Did we know why? He was anxious to hear us.

We taught him the C (Restoration) discussion and he answered all of our questions just great. He also asked many questions which we did our best to answer in our limited speaking ability. He said he'd read the Book of Mormon and come out to Church next week, which he did. He offered a really sincere and humble prayer at the close.

What was interesting was that when Elder Weenig (my regular companion) and I went back to teach him a few days later, I could not understand a word that he said. After talking with him for a while, Elder Weenig said goodbye and we left. Elder Weenig was shaking his head. "Companion!" he said. "How did you two ever teach this guy?" I guess he comes from some province on the mainland and speaks with a very thick accent that even Elder Weenig could not understand. I know now that it was the Lord blessing two weak and humble elders with the gift of tongues to help in the work.

(Mr. Lyou investigated for a while but would not make commitments to be baptized, of which I am sorry. But I thank Heavenly Father for that wonderful experience to know that He would support us in the work if we did our part.)
