Ultimate Bike Wreck 17 Jan 2006
You think Kirk Blake's story was bad. What if you were riding your bike down the road in your first month of being in Taiwan and after turning your head to see how far back your trainer was, find yourself on your back after nailing a parked truck? After seven hours in the hospital and two days of staying in my apartment I was fine and ready to go back out. The thing I'll remember most is Elder McGhie standing over my crumpled half knocked-out ruins and reassuring me (as if it was of the utmost importance) "Elder Comer, your camera is OK." (I had just bought a brand new digital camera the previous day.) In the Christmas Mission Conference four days later President Chou announced that missionaries needed to be more careful so they didn't have bike wrecks. He then asked me to stand up and acknowledge myself to everybody. Five months later I was involved in another bike accident where my front tire got stuck flipping me over the handle bars and planting me face first on the hard asphalt. With a bruise over my left eye (in the same spot that one appeared after the first accident) I went to my interview with President Chou a couple days later. He just shook his head.
