Update!.....March 2005 vacationed in Beijing & Shanghai. Cold & windy at the Great Wall. People were great but more in cars now so streets getting crowded. Many old buildings gone (sad) making way for high rises. Thanksgiving 2003 went to Taiwan for 9 days for a trip to Hualien and Kending Park...first time to Kending and it was really nice. Weather and prices were great! $12/day motorcycle rental, $4 buffet, $3 winter jackets...like the old Taiwan of early 80's. In March 2002 went to Thailand and Taiwan for 2 weeks. What a change for Taiwan....Thailand like Taiwan in the 80's!
March 2001 made a trip with my two brothers to Beijing, Xian, Chungking, Nanking, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Guilin. We wanted to see the Yangtze Rivers and Three Gorges Dam area before the flooding occured. The country seemed like Taiwan from the early 80's...people just getting a taste of western stuff (food, electronics, culture). Fact was, the mid-point of the trip was April 1, 2001, when our spy plane pilot collided with Wang Wei over Hainan island.
