Fall 2004 my wife and I with lau da and syau di traveled to Tokyo and then Shanghai, Xian, Huangjo, Wuxi and Beijing China. We visited our youngest daughter who was teaching in Wuxi. I had been to China in 1985 and again briefly in 2003. Changes are more than dramatic. Absolutely astounding. China is in full economic thrust. My language skills are rusty but usable. Great inadequacies in speaking and understanding all that I wish. Still deeply infected with "Orient-itis". One must read all information regarding the Orient; travel when possible to the Far East; keep chopsticks handy; and frequent Chinese restaurants. It is contageous. My wife and children are now carriers.
