Joseph Weston Hall III, known as Trey to everyone he came in contact with, was born March 6th, 1960 in Dallas, Texas to Joseph Weston Hall Jr. and Doris Ann Cooper-Hall. Soon after he was born, the Halls moved to Tacoma, Washington with his sister Robin Hall-Culpepper. While in Tacoma, Trey learned to ski at Crystal Mountain. Trey and his mother later moved back to Dallas, TX where he graduated from J.J. Pearce High School in 1978.
Trey was accepted to Brigham Young University. While there he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, leaving for an LDS mission in Taipei, Taiwan a year later in 1981. He completed his mission in 1982 and returned to BYU where he married Ann Morton-Hall on June 25th, 1983 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple after first meeting as acquaintances in College and writing each other while they both served missions.
Trey graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications/Journalism and is then accepted to the Medill School of Journalism – Integrated Marketing Program at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. Ryan Hall was born December 10th, 1984 shortly after Trey began his first job at the advertising firm Foote, Cone and Belding. On February 13th, 1987 Sydney Hall is still-born.
Trey accepted a job working for Pizza Hut as a Regional Marketing Manager in Lake Forest, Orange County, California where Dallin Hall was born August 30th, 1989.
Trey and his family then moved to Wichita, KS where Trey continued his work for Pizza Hut working as a Director of National Brand Management and Director of Strategic Development/Sports and Event Marketing. While in Kansas Trey began cycling competitively. On August 8th, 1991, Trey and Ken Calwell were training for a race when they struck head-on leaving both with serious injuries. After a lengthy recuperation Trey continued to cycle and ski until his death. While in Kansas Trey served in many different capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints including serving in the Stake Mission Presidency and in the Bishopric.
Trey then moved to Littleton, CO with his family fulfilling a life-long dream of being close to the Rocky Mountains and teaching his children to ski. He began work as the Chief Marketing Officer and later Chief Brand Officer at Boston Market (1994-2003; 2005-2007). Trey worked as Chief Marketing Officer at Quiznos (2003-2005). During his time in Colorado Trey also started a consulting firm called Cairn Consulting, taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado, coached various lacrosse teams, continued to cycle competitively – completing multiple Triple Bypass bicycle races and ran with the Olympic Torch in the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, UT. While in Littleton Trey served in many leadership positions in the Church including: Seminary Teacher, Ward Mission Leader, Stake Mission President, High Priest Group Leader, High Councilman and Bishopric Counselor.
Trey left Colorado to return to Dallas, TX in 2010 where he worked as Senior Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer for Carlson Restaurants Worldwide/TGIFRIDAYS.
Trey then returned to his beloved Colorado home where he began work as President of Consumer Capitol Group where he oversaw various restaurants/projects including Tom's Urban 24, Live Basil Pizza, USA Pro Cycling Challenge and worked as part of the UN Millennium Development Goals. Trey then began work at National Grocers as Chief Operating Officer from 2014 until his death May, 25th 2015. Trey also served as Bishop for the Young Single Adult Ward where he dedicated much of his free time and energy.
Trey died from a heart arrhythmia on May 25th 2015 while cycling with his wife. He died doing what he loved, cycling, in the mountains, with his wife by his side.
He is survived by his mother Doris Ann Cooper, sister Robin Culpepper, his wife Ann Morton-Hall, son Ryan Hall and his wife Adelyn Stroup-Hall, son Dallin Hall and his wife-to-be Megan Real.
He is dearly missed by his family and friends.
A Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015, 1:00 p.m., The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6705 South Webster Street, Littleton, CO. A viewing will be held at the Church from 12:00-12:45 p.m. Interment will follow at the Littleton City Cemetery, 6155 South Prince Street, Littleton 80210.
