To Our Beloved Tennessee Nashville Missionaries:

It has been great to hear updates from some of you during the past year. We think of you often and love running into you. Seeing your kids (grand missionaries) makes us smile. Remember our mission success will ultimately be judged by how you and those kids turn out. As life’s adventures, challenges and blessings unfold in your life please know that we still witness of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The babe of Bethlehem is the Messenger of the Covenant who lives today. We pray that you are enjoying the blessings found in making and keeping sacred gospel covenants. We hope you are happy.

Here is a brief update on the Sorber “clan” and the word “clan” has special significance this year as you will see below:
• Tom returned from his mission to the West Indies (Suriname) in June where he spent most of his time speaking Dutch and “taki-taki”. He completed his service in Guyana speaking English (sort of). We met him in Trinidad and traveled to Suriname visiting the places and people he has come to love. Tom is an economics major at BYU and lives with his roommate/brother, Andrew.
• Drew is studying history at BYU and plans on pursuing an academic career. He is pleased to be returning to Europe as he has been accepted to a summer study abroad program at Queens’ College, Cambridge University. He added the banjo to his repertoire of instruments this summer and has been performing with a Celtic Ensemble at BYU.
• Joseph & Kathryn became parents last summer with the birth of our first male grandchild, Kenneth Osmond Sorber (he is called Ossie, after his great grandfather). They live in West Virginia where Joseph started medical school in August. Ossie’s birth was 24 hours after we took family pictures, so technically he is in the picture but hard to see.
• Sam, Rachel, Natalie, Lucy & Emily (born in May) are in Houston, but not for long. Exxon is sending them to Aberdeen, Scotland soon after the first of the year. They will be in Scotland for several years while Sam works on North Sea oil projects. With Drew’s encouragement, Sam has picked up the mandolin so the family band will be rockin this Christmas.
• Jacob, Trisha, Eliza, Maren & Jane live in Massachusetts where Jacob is finishing up his PhD in computer science at UMASS. Jacob is applying to universities all over the U.S. and beyond, so it will be interesting to see where they land. The family had a wild summer adventure in St. Croix where Jacob was working on a research project tracking a local mongoose population.
• Ken and Kristy had an exciting year of travels and growing serious herbs in our new stone herb garden. Instead of raising kids it was all about fine vegetables this year as Ken helped organize a community garden in addition to the one in our back yard. Anyone need onions? Ken also filled the freezer with wild Coho Salmon after a week of fishing in Alaska. Kristy and her girl gang walk, hike mountains and are finally back to cross-country skiing. Ken enjoys working at Western Governor’s University which is experiencing tremendous growth and success. Together, we have fun teaching a weekly religious education class for college age students. We spend time with kids and grandkids whenever/wherever possible.

We are happy, healthy and very grateful for friends, family and faith. Please stay in touch and we hope that our paths will cross in the near future. Have a Merry Christmas.
Love,

Ken and Kristy Sorber
