His Majesty King Phumipol Adunyadej has been hospitalized for treatment of insufficient blood flow to the brain (cerebral ischemia). (See the Bangkok Post at www.bangkokpost.com)
While the current condition seems to be improving the death of His Majesty would likely throw Thailand into chaos. The present timing before December's general election would be most unfortunate. Head of the King's privy council Prem Tinsulanonda seems to be the cuurrent voice of the palace. He was the former Prime Minister (1990s) and a former general.
His Majesty will be 80 years old on December 5, 2007.
