Death of President Keith E. Garner 03 May 2012
President Keith E. Garner who was president of the Southern Far East Mission from 1965-68 passed away on April 26, 2012. He was instrumental and a moving force in securing permission to send the first missionaries to Thailand on February 2, 1968. He and Sister Garner accompanied the six missionaries to Thailand when they flew from Hong Kong and entered the country on that date to re-open the missionary work, which had been closed since Elder Elam Luddington last served in Bangkok for four months in 1854. He and Sister Garner also attended the dedication of Thailand in Lumpini Park in November 1966 with President Gordon B. Hinckley. The members and people of Thailand owe a debt of gratitude to President Garner, a man whom most of them have never heard of, but for those of us who knew and loved him he is a founder of the Gospel work in Thailand. He had a great love of the Gospel, the scriptures and the Lord's work. He has a very special place in the hearts of his missionaries who served under him and learned from him.
