The passing of Sister Colleen Holbrook 17 May 2004
Obituary: Colleen Allred Holbrook
7/16/27 ~ 5/11/04
Surrounded by her loving family, Colleen Allred Holbrook quietly slipped through the veil on May 11, 2004, at her home on West Mountain near Spanish Fork, Utah.
This followed a three-year bout with Alzheimer's Disease. She was 77 years old, leaving her surviving husband Neil K. Holbrook, whom she met as a neighbor at age 12 and married in 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had four children and a still-born daughter.
Colleen was best known for being "Queen of the Days of '47," in the year 1948. She attended University of Utah, where she was "U-Days Queen." Her hobby and career was teaching, having taught elementary grades for over 30 years.
"Service" would best describe Colleen. She served with her husband four full-time missions for the LDS Church and served in nearly every Church calling. She also served in the Kiev Ukraine Mission, where her husband was a counselor to the mission president, and later served to prepare and initiate the Donetsk Ukraine Mission.
Born July 16, 1927 to Clarence J. and Thelma Myrtle Allred, Colleen comes from pioneer heritage. She is survived by four children: Kevin Holbrook, Fruit Heights, Utah; Becky Simons, Provo, Utah; Deborah Wiley, Alamo, California; Heidi Perry, Pleasant Grove, Utah; sisters Joyce Dowden and Carolyn Smith; 29 grandchildren and 12 great-grand-children also survive her.
Funeral services for Colleen will be held Saturday, May 15, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in the Lakeshore Chapel, 5916 South 3200 West, Lakeshore, Utah. Friends and family are invited to a visitation Friday evening at the Lakeshore Chapel from 6-8 p.m. Also, an additional viewing will be held Saturday morning from 9:00-10:15 a.m. at the Lakeshore Chapel.
Interment for Colleen will take place immediately following her funeral service, at the Provo City Cemetery.
