My name is Alfonso Rodriguez. I served in Uruguay from Feb 1980-1982. A few
of us from that time (Karl Farnsworth, Shawn Guzman, Jimmy Woods myself),
are thinking about organizing a charter flight to down for the temple
dedication. We are curious as to how many people would be intertested in
joining us for the trip. If we had enough interest, we would pursue it and
see if we could arrange something. We were wondering if it was possible to
add a message about this on your website. The message would ask if anyone
would be interested and give an email address where they could respond.

We think the trip would be wonderful since it would consist mostly of
missionaries from Uruguay. Activities could be arranged for serveral groups
to see the different areas of the mission field.

Again, we are just in the beginning stages of planning. Nothing is definite
yet. We would like to start now since the dedication is about a year away.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I look forward to hearing from you. You can best reach me at my work email
address: alfonsor@vinca.com

I am looking for anyone who knows the whereabouts of Hector Federico
Vazquez, a companion of mine from Fraile Muerto in 1979 (under Marion
Robinson). I am also planning on travelling with my son to Uruguay in April
2000 and
would like to stay with members in a "bed and breakfast" type arrangement to
make it more affordable. Has anyone rented a car in Uruguay recently?
Can you help me find a reliable company, or is the gas so expensive that I
should just plan on
travelling by bus or train?
The temple progress should be posted somewhere on the home page, if anybody
knows how the temple is progressing.
Looking forward to replies.

To make a long story short......I came home from Uruguay at the end of March
1992. My traveling companion was non other than my good friend David Burky.
(What a stud!) As we were waiting to leave Brazil a bunch of girls boarded
the plane. Burky started saying "dems da paquitas" Naturally I had no clue
what he was saying. He then started repeating "the xuxa must be on board"
"the xuxa must be on board" over and over again. I almost has to tie him to
the chair........Anyway to make this shorter. As we were walking off the
plane in Miami, who do we see?

Here's to you Burk..... I love ya che.....

I'm Davide Bressan and I'm writing to know if it's possible to find a way to
have a copy of my parents' patriarcal blessing. They lived in Uruguay from 1954
to 1971. They joined the church in June and July 1966 and they got theyr
blessings in 1967.They used to live in Penarol,Montevideo wihch area belonged to
La Floresta ward. My father got called as a bishop in that ward by Gordon B.
Hinckley in December 5th,1969. As I told you, they lived there until 1971,when
they went back to Italy and they lost the copies of theyr blessings. If there is
a easy way to get them, please, let me know. If you can get them easily, please do
it. Write back as soon as possible.

Hi everybody,

It's really a great blessing to have such an easy way to find out about so
many of our old friends from the mission. Laura and I have been able to find
people that we probably would not have been able to find by any other means.
There are still a lot of people we'd like to touch base with that aren't in
the yearbook yet. I'd like to know if anyone can help us find some of them.

We're looking for any information on the whereabouts of the following
missionaries: Daniel Pherson, Daniel Rodgerson, Caroline Johnston, Sergio
Rivero (from Salto), Ruben Nuarte (from Paraguay). Laura would also like to
find out about Adrian Moreto from Mendoza, Argentina.(please forgive any
spelling errors, it's been a long time.)There are a lot of others who
haven't found their way into the yearbook that we'd like to hear from, but I
couldn't list them all.

Please send any info to us at:

past few years.

Thanks for all your help. We love all you guys.

Cinco..... Yesterday one of my old buddies Richard Palmer and I came back from a
two week trip to Uruguay. It was awesome and we had a blast. We have current
info on stuff as well as car rental info and hotel info if anyone is interested.
We got to go up into the Temple site and see how it is progressing and it is
coming along nicely. It will be a great blessing for the people of Uruguay. My
name is Brad Clayton and I served down there from 78-80. I can be reached at
e-mail JBRADCLAYTON@MSN.COM. Thanks for your assistance. Brad

We got our air tickets for about $950 per person through my travel agent.
She purchased the tickets through a "consolidator" and we got a great price.
We saved about $300-$400 per ticket. We stayed at the Days Inn in Montevideo
accross from Tres Cruzes (Major Bus Station) for about $60 per night. Out in
the Interior the prices ranged from about $35-$60 for average rooms. We
rented a Toyota Tercel from MaxiDrive for about $300 for 9 days. They are
located right next door to the Days Inn. Gas was very expensive and we paid
about $240 for about 1500 miles of driving. We left on 1/23/00 and returned
back home on 2/08/00. The total cost of the trip for myself and my wife was
approx. $4200 which included lots of good eating and shopping. We even
stayed 2 days in Punta Del Este and had quite a fun time. If you were a
"machete" (aka TIGHTWAD) you could probably do this deal for about $3500 for
a couple. Rich Palmer and I shared the gas and the car rental. Hope that
this helps out. If you haven't been back, you need to go. I definitely will
be going back. Brad

Sr. Steph..... Our 1st stop was off to Punta and boy did we have a good
time. We then went through Treinta y Tres to visit and we spent the night in
Melo. Next was on to Rivera for a day and night with visits to several
members. We then headed to spend the day and night in Bella Union. We then
dropped down to Salto where we spent two days at the Termas Del Dayman. We
had a blast !!! We headed on down through Paysandu and Fray Bentos for a
couple of short visits and ended back in Montevideo. It was one long day !!
The last 3 days were spent in Montevideo for some visits and last minute
buying. Hope that helps. I would highly recommend staying at the Days Inn in
Montevideo and renting a car through MaxiDrive which is right next door to
the hotel. Both establishments treated us exceptionally. Both are centrally
located in the city.

Here are some Posts from 1997 you might want to see

As for the email address, I dont know if they are correct or not.

I live in Phoenix, Arizona. I came across recently a newspaper in Spanish called Norte y Sur. It's printed in the states and is written for US residents from Argentina and Uruguay and contains news from Rio de la Plata as well as about Arg/Uru residents in the US. Most of the concentration appears to be in the New York City area--very interesting.

Thanks

J. Keneth Mangum

I am looking for the following people:

Barry Calkins, D. Todd Jones, Eric Cluff, Diane Zaitz,

Doug Woodruff, Rachel Edwards

If anyone knows please send me and E-mail henze@msn.com.

It's great to see some new names on the list. Cinco and I were the onlyones on it for about six weeks! We've already run out of stories to telleach other. I served in San Fernando for six months with Haugen, DaSilva,an "Buck" Roberts; the members wondered if I had been orphaned. NuevaHelvecia/Rosario with Bennett; the coldest two months of my life. Salto with Rombach and Clark; the best area in Uruguay. San Jose de Carrasco with Clayton and Sutherland; home of the best members on Earth (Carlos Schneckenberger and Freddy Allende). Melo with Baird; short rato as ZL before flying home. I was a no-choice 18 monther back while the Earth's crust was still cooling. I had an Argentine comp during the Falkland war, which was an experience since the US backed the British. I now live in St. George, Utah with my wife of 11+ years and four sons; Brandon, 10; Tyler, 8; Mason, 7; and Kyle, 3. Anyone who was in the same areas that I was ought to send a note and we'll compare stories. Hasta pronto.

Karl Stevens kstevens@infowest.com

I was in San Fernando and Delta del Tigre for a few months back in 1990. Man that place was a pit. I was a lidere del distrito and the rest of the district was down the road in Libertad. We would go there for district meetings once a week and to call in our numbers to the zone leaders in El Cerro. I don't remember there being too many phones in San Fernando but in Libertad you actually had to go into a little booth at the phone office, crank a handle and talk to an operator to place your call. Man that place was backward. I also remember vomiting some tallerines all over the floor of a bus on the way back from one of our district meetings.Ahhh memories.

My name is Ray Wilkett and I served from September of 1988 to September of 1990 under President Grow. I'm from Washington State but I now live in Nampa, Idaho with my wife of 6 years and our three children, Hannah, 5; Connor, 2; and Miranda, 3 months. I work as a programmer for Micron Electronics which may or may not soon be bought out by Compaq.

I served in Tacuarembo, Barrio 9(Montevideo), la ciudad de Canelones, San Jose del Carrasco, San Fernando of course, and finally Bella Union (I think President Grow wanted me as far away from the airport as possible my last 3 months, hence my trip to the "Beautiful Union" which was partially submerged beneath the Rio Uruguay when I arrived there). The most memorable thing that happened to me was that the ward mission leaders in my last two areas happened to die while I was in their areas. It was probably a good thing that I left when I did.

Ray Wilkett

Hey Cinco.

While reading some of the entries in el matero I noticed there was some interest in Uruguay news. The El Pais newspaper can be found at www.diarioelpais.com. A lot of people probably know that already but the info may help somebody. The site is really good. It just makes you want to grab your spouse and dance a tango. It also provides links to other newspapers in SA and worldwide.

Thanks

Mendell

Hi to whoever is there!

I am Ted Drinkwater and I served from February 1989 to April of 1991 under President Grow. I have been absolutely out of the loop since returning home from the mission field, but I think of the friends that I made along the way often. The problem is that I have not made an attempt to keep in touch, so I was thirlled to get an invitiation to the mission reunion, although I couldn't make it (lamentablemente,) with this web site included. It's a handy way to get connected again!

I would love to hear from anyone who recognizes my name. I was MTC companions with David Banks and we became good friends, along with Alex Thurman. There are many others that had a tremendous impact on me and helped create a great experience for me in the mission field. I would love to hear from any of you out there who can help me reestablish contact with some familiar names. I'm sure we've all seen some exciting times since then and it would be great to trade stories some old and some new.

My e-mail is tdrinkwater@kpmg.com and I still live in New Jersey in the Philadelphia area. I travel quite a bit as part of my job and it would be great to get together with a familiar face when I am in a far away from home city. As a matter of fact, I am going to be in Dallas, TX on an assignment the week of 9/15 and I plan on going to the Dallas/Philadelphia Monday night game if anyone is interested. GO EAGLES!!!! (and Ty Detmer)

I hope somebody responds to this message, I spent some good work time getting connected and getting this thing out!

Adioooooooooooos,

Ted Drinkwater

Life is good. I don't necessarily have a fav. brand of mate, as long as it's nice and warm, with or without palitos...

A good ole "Howdy" from the potato capital on the world! I'm kind of slow on the uptake and just found this web site. I think it's great. My congratulations to Pres. and Sister Brooks on their new assignment. I wasn't one of your missionaries but I met you on a visit to Uruguay.

I had the great opportunity to serve under the direction of President and Sister howard and President and Sister Call. I pretty much served in Montevideo with a short stint in Solymar. I would like to hear from some of my friends and companions from down there I didn't drink mate so I can't give a preference on brands.

Don Mickelsen 1981-1983

My name is Shelley Robinson de Koehler and I served in our bella Uruguay from Nov. 1988 to May 1990 under Pres. Grow. I have looked for a Uruguay mission page many times and was thrilled to see that someonefinally organized one. Great job Elderes! I have managed to loose contact with all of my former companions, but still talk on the phone with my "golden" converts from Dolores: Ramon, Ana, y Romina Acosta. I served in Santa Lucia, Treinta y Tres, Dolores y Maldonado. My comps included B. Hawkes, J. Beckstead, L. Ashman, A. Lugo, A. McBride, S. Castro, C. Gimenez, M. Sorensen, R. Solis, and T. Woffinden. I would love to hear from (or about) them and any Elders I served with, especially Elder Robinson and Shaun Torrez. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Raquel Solis de Samaniego of Paraguay, please help me get in touch with her. She married Carlos Samaniego, who also served in Uruguay.

Thanks again for the great site! Chau!
