Dear Sisters and couples who have served on Temple Square:
Since Kristina Law created the website www.templesquareworld.com we have added a blogspot for the purpose of sending a monthly newsletter to encourage each other and to keep a connection with the sisters who we served with and any others who desire to hear from us. If you are interested, please check out the blog. It is:

Hi! This is mostly a message for sisters from the President Harbertson era, because the rest of you won't have children old enough for what I am proposing.
We homeschool our five children, and last year Nina (13) had a penpal from China and really enjoyed it. I would love for her to have another penpal this year, and I thought I would look first to all the great sisters I served with. This doesn't have to be a girl from out of the US, just someone for Nina to write to who's within a few years of her age. It's great writing practice. I would also love for my son Sean (11) to have a penpal, so I'll propose that as well.
I'll be out of town until next Friday, but I would love to hear from you if your kids would like to exchange letters with mine.
Emily (Athay) Goodey

Can anyone help me remember the names of the sisters in the photo at the end of the News conference that announced President Monson as the new president of the Church? It is at roughly minute 41:22 and is only up for a second, but my sister-in-law recognised me, but I can't remember the photo being taken! It would have been about 15 years ago.
Thanks,
hgc

I just saw the message on the web-site regarding Sister Samoa. I had no idea she was sick at all and I feel terrible that this is the first I have heard. I wish I knew and could've attended her funeral. How incredibly sad. My sympathies go out to her family and loved ones. She was one of the strongest women I knew and a wonderful missionary with an incredible spirit. What an awful loss. She will be missed not only by her immediate family but by our mission family.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but for those of you who haven't heard yet, Sister Bertha Samoa passed way last week. I don't know many details, I just found out a few days ago, but I thought those of you who knew her should now. And those of you who didn't - she was the kindest, most loving, forgiving and amazing woman I have ever met. I am blessed to have known her and my sympathy goes out to her family!

I will be visiting Utah at the end of June, and I thought I would post a message for anybody who might be around at that time. I will be flying in on June 24th and heading back to Louisiana on July 2nd. I'll be staying with Bernstein in SLC.
I can't believe how long I have been away from Temple Square. I'll have to play the part of a tourist. I am also looking forward to seeing the Conference Center.
Feel free to e-mail me or call me.

In April of 2005, we met.
She drove up from Cali to see me here in Utah. I didn't think much about the meeting until she sat in my parents living room and I thought - wow! This woman is *beautiful*!!!
A trip to the temple for our first date where I talked her into doing some sealings after a session. Then, on to Beto's where I totally embarrassed myself in front of a young cashier whilst trying to impress "mi mujer" with my exhaustive Spanish vocabulary, and then - she had to go home.
Well... not home, but back to Cali, while I decided what was going to happen next.
In May, I proposed to her in front of the Christus Statue on Temple Square, telling her that all I had would be hers if she would accept my proposal.
I made her say "yes" twice.
Because I wasn't sure I heard her the first time.
And now...
Now, we're returning to Temple Square - 2 years after that bended-knee, life-altering and life-enhancing experience.
To be sealed.
To each other.
And it will all come full circle where it began - kneeling across the altar in the Salt Lake Temple as we are sealed to each other for time and eternity.
We will be sealed April 7, 2007. If you'd like further details, please email me. I'd love to hear from you!

I was wondering if there are any of you that served mainly with the Hearing Impaired on your mission. Hi,
My name is James Hofheins and I am starting a new LDS fiction writing project. One of the main characters is a young woman who gets called to and serves a mission at Temple Square.
I'd like to ask any former sister who has served on Temple Square to help me with some fact-based research.
If you are interested, please email me at christseries@yahoo.com
Thank you so much!

Dear Sisters and Friends of the Temple Square Mission,
Upon speaking with Jennifer Johnson (webmaster), she suggested that I should make one point clear…to state that we will not profit from the sale of these books. Please let me clarify: We did not make the website for personal gain; we made it so that:
1. The books can be easily accessible to any sister missionary anywhere in the world;
2. We can gather more stories from sisters who would like to share them in the next book;
3. To further the mission of Temple Square, informing others about the wonderful things that happened there.
The books so far are very uplifting and inspiring and are a perfect gift for anyone.
The first two books have yet to turn a penny of profit, and in fact, Maurine Winters paid from her own pocket for publishing costs she has yet to recover.
Any profit that may be produced in the future would be used to publish additional printings of the books and to fund the operating and advertising expenses for the website, royalties, taxes, shipping, and eventually, we would love to be able to fund other projects as well. Clearly, this will depend upon how quickly this project gets out of the red, if ever.
Once again, please understand we are not involved in this project for personal gain. The costs are simply too high for that to ever be a factor. Most people don't understand that unless you're a bestselling author, you always pay for your own publishing, which is prohibitively expensive for low volume printings.
Becuase some of you asked, another point I want to make is that you can purchase these books directly from the website at: www.templesquareworld.com. Both books are available in paperback or digital format. Additionally, we want to make it as reasonable as possible so we are offering free shipping in the US.
I hope that this letter will help us avoid any misunderstandings.
Thanks again for your participation!
Sincerely,
Kristina Law

Dear Sisters,
As many of you know some time ago I served on Temple Square as you did. Later in my life every time I would share stories from Temple Square Mission time to time, people would always come to me and thank me for sharing my experiences with them. They said that they were touched and inspired by what they heard.
Maurine Winters and Joyce Goodrich wrote the first book about Temple Square Missionaries called "Angels on Temple Square." When I first heard about the book, I was very excited because there was no other book like that. When I first read the book it reminded me of many amazing things that happened on Temple Square and I was so grateful Maurine and Joyce published it after all. As time went on and Maurine published the second book "Missionary Moments on Temple Square" . I decided to become more involved in this wonderful project and recently created a website: www.templesquareworld.com that would continue the legacy of the first two books. We want to continue with sharing your stories from your mission to inspire others...
We wanted both books to be more accessible to people, especially to former sisters and their families and friends worldwide. So we are offering both books for sale (with free shipping in the US for limited time). We also added both of these books in Digital Download to accommodate those that prefer this format.
However that is not the site's main focus. Our primary aims are to collect similar stories to those found in the books and publish them in the next book about Temple Square as well as on the templesquareworld.com website. We also wish to use this website as a missionary tool to collect referrals from interested parties, and we want to describe Temple Square to the world from the perspective of sisters who have previously served there, rather than as a tourist attraction. We will be adding new stories and projects to the website every month so if you want to be updated please sign up for our free newsletter as well.
I am so grateful that Maurine Winters and my husband supported me in this project and so we can do this for you. We want your participation! Send us stories and pictures and any additional ideas you may have through the website. We will also be adding another exciting project to the website next month. Anyone who served on Temple Square and would like to write a book about that mission experience, now is your chance to do so. We will publish it in digital format for you on our website to get you started. You can learn more details next month when you sign up for our Free Newsletter.
Please let everyone know about this. I know that we do not have all the sisters listed here and so we really appreciate your help in spreading the word about this website and various projects connected with it.
Sincerely,
Kristina Tamasova Law and Maurine Winters

Protecting Loved Ones
Many times we agonize over the way society is heading, full speed ahead, into decay and destruction. We may think we are strong enough to face the evil, for we know we do not face it alone. The Lord is and ever will be with His righteous warriors and Saints.
But we have loved ones who, because of their choices, or because of the choices of others, or simply because of life’s injustices, are not prepared to face the evil. It is for these whom we love so dearly, that we fear.
Many in the world today are held captive to the slavery of sin, addiction and abuse. These three terrors inflict wounds and bind with chains we’d rather not think about, but that does nothing to lessen their reality.
How can we help these who are, in many ways, unable to fend for themselves against the onslaught of evil? What can we do to protect them?
We can turn our own lives back to God and align our own wills to conform with His.
Listen to the promise of Hezekiah, the ancient prophet of the Old Testament:
“For if ye turn again unto the LORD, your brethren and your children shall find compassion before them that lead them captive, so that they shall come again into this land: for the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him.” (2 Chronicles 30:9)
Jacob, the brother of Nephi, made a similar promise:
“For behold, the promises which we have obtained are promises unto us according to the flesh; wherefore, as it has been shown unto me that many of our children shall perish in the flesh because of unbelief, nevertheless, God will be merciful unto many; and our children shall be restored, that they may come to that which will give them the true knowledge of their Redeemer.” (2 Nephi 10:2)
What are these ancient men of God telling us? They are testifying that our faithfulness to our Father and to our Savior can bring about much mercy, compassion and grace to our children and other loved ones. They are telling us that by our faith and by our prayers in their behalf, they can find their Redeemer. They can find healing, solace and salvation. In other words, because we are willing to be faithful to God, God promises to be merciful to our loved ones.
This is something I see much of when I encounter missionaries in the field. Many leave behind parents, brother, sisters and friends who are not ready to listen to the gospel, much less accept and embrace it. But, because these elders and sisters are faithful and serve the Lord while praying for those they love, in very many cases, those loved ones are ready to come into the fold by the time the missionary returns home.
I testify that if you remain faithful to your Father in Heaven, to your Savior and to His restored gospel and kingdom, and continue in faithful prayer, you will find much reason to rejoice. Although not every man or woman will accept the gospel in this lifetime, the Lord will, as He said, be merciful to them because of your faith. The Lord hears the prayers of the righteous (see Proverbs 15:29) and He acts upon those prayers (see James 5:16) and He will amaze you with His mercy (see Mosiah, chapter 27).
Stay faithful. Don’t give up. Go to your Father and share your love and concerns. Then, as Samuel said, “stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.” (1 Sam 12:16) And as you pray and watch Him work in their lives, relish in His everlasting Embrace.
