just two words 17 Feb 2005
The old Tabernacle was one of the points of interest that I found most of our guests most excited about. People from all walks, cultures, races and places came to see the famous Mormon Tabernacle for the choir, known around the world. I met a man of medium height, dressed for success, he was clearly there with a larger group of Koreans, on break from a business conference probably held in Salt Lake. I approached him and asked if he would like to know more about the history of the Tabernacle, just as I asked all our guests. He politely declined with a blase wave of his hand and sat down on a pew near where I was greeting in the back. I noticed he sat there for about 15 minutes just looking fixated ahead and I felt a desire to approach him again. This time I asked him a few questions, his reason for visiting, where he came from to visit Salt Lake and I found he was a man of few words. So just as I was about to leave the poor man to his solitude before he felt threatened, he lifted his head just as I excused myself, and he said with a sincere look in his eyes, "I just have one question for you, what is it that sets your church apart from all the other Christian Churches here, where there are so many?" I was surprised by his inquiry. I said a small silent prayer as I listened to his question, Father in Heaven, what could I tell this man that would help him personally feel the Spirit and give him a desire to understand, what I knew? My mind raced quickly through what all I could say like; Temples that bind Families Together Forever, The True Priesthood of God, restored by God Himself, a restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, Yet it all came through a chosen prophet to lead and direct his church. Yes a prophet and then before I could think, I said two words that became so profound to me as I said them outloud. Those words were, Modern Revelation. He sat there still slightly bent with his head down as it was before and it felt like almost the "space of an hour" before he responded and when he did he repeated the words quietly as if he was handling them in his mind carefully, thoughtfully. He looked up and said it a third time even now with confidence to me, as if he were discovering something for the first time. I am not sure what he was thinking and how profound it was for him. All I know was I could feel the Spirit of the Holy Ghost fill the room up with a bright clear light that made it seem as if much more was revealed to both of us than could ever be expressed in words. I was moved even to silence myself. I then realized he was filling out a comment card, that my companion had given to him earlier. He had pulled it out of his pocket and he checked the box that allowed missionaries to come to his place of residence, even in Korea to share more about the gospel of Jesus Christ. He handed it to me and this man of quiet dignity said with a smile, I would like to know more, Thankyou for you Information and with that he walked on out the double doors. This was another golden moment where I would feel the Spirit testify to me, that what I was sharing with others was of greater worth than I could ever possibly know.
