information on Derek Welling 18 Nov 2002
My son who is serving a mission in Texas Houston South mission is trying to locate his BYU friend, Derek Welling. He knows he is in the Washington, Tacoma mission, but that is about it. Any help would be appreciated. I have the mission home address, but not the mission office. Would it be appropriate for him to send a letter to the mission home which would then be forwarded?

Wow, I didn't even know a missionary site like this existed, how cool. Let's see so far that I've seen on here I know Elders Darby, Cunningham, and Sykes...but I'm wondering if there's a way to get ahold of a few more from before, we'll see..I'll try to remember to check here more often! Thanks!

Elder Tesch 30 Sep 2002
My son is serving there in Tacoma and loves it. He is in the town of Puyallup. Some people have heard of the name and helped me with the pronounciation. We love receiving letters from him. I have a good picture of him, buy a cement wall - A better picture would have been of him, hiding behind his companion as the dog (a big one) was ready to attack! Anyways, can I submitt pictures? Can we contact our missionaries through email? Maybe I am in the wrong place to ask questions. Good bye for now. Mama Tesch

When does Elder Milliron come home? He was my last companion in the mission in Morton a little over a year ago. Tell him hi next time you write.

You might be from the Northwest if you...

  • Feel guilty throwing aluminum cans or paper in the trash.
  • Use the expression "sun break" and know what it means.
  • Know more people who own boats than air conditioners.
  • Feel overdressed wearing a suit to a nice restaurant.
  • Stand on a deserted corner in the rain waiting for the "Walk" signal.
  • Consider that if it has no snow or has not recently erupted, it's not a real mountain.
  • Know the difference between Chinook, Coho, and Sockeye salmon.
  • Know how to pronounce Sequim, Puyallup, Issaquah, Oregon, and Willamette.
  • Consider swimming an indoor sport.
  • Can tell the difference between Japanese, Chinese, and Thai food.
  • In winter, go to work in the dark and come home in the dark ... while only working eight-hour days.
  • Never go camping without waterproof matches and a poncho.
  • Are not fazed by "Today's forecast: showers followed by rain, and tomorrow's forecast: rain followed by showers."
  • Can't wait for a day with "showers and sun breaks."
  • Have no concept of humidity without precipitation.
  • Know that Boring is a town in Oregon and not just a state of mind.
  • Can point to at least two volcanoes, even if you can't see through the cloud cover.
  • Say, "The Mountain is out" when it's a pretty day and you can actually see it.
  • Put on your shorts when the temperature gets above 50, but still wear your hiking boots and parka.
  • Switch to your sandals when it gets above 60, but keep the socks on.
  • Have actually used your mountain bike on a mountain.
  • Think people who use umbrellas are either wimps or tourists.
  • Knew immediately that the view out "Frazier’s" window was fake.
  • Buy new sunglasses every year, because you can't find the old ones after such a long time.
  • Switch from "heat" to "a/c" in the same.
  • You use a down comforter in the summer.
  • Your grandparents drive 65 mph through 2 feet of water during raging rainstorm without flinching.
  • Design your kid's Halloween costume to fit under a raincoat.
  • Know that driving is better in the winter because almost everybody stays home.
  • Think sexy lingerie is tube socks and flannel pajamas.
  • Actually understand these comments and share them with all your friends in Washington and Oregon or those who used to live here.

Mtc district Elders 22 Jun 2002
I am looking for the following missionaries that I served with in the Mtc: Hale, Haskell, Helton, Forsberg, Baker . Sept -Oct 1990. Hey guys, it's Sister Benson. What are you up to these days? I'd say drop me an email, but if you're not in my address book it's junk mail. So drop me a postcard: Anne Benson, 124 Lynne School Ln, Ogden, UT 84404. Looking forward to hearing from you.

New Missionary 22 Apr 2002
Our son, Christopher Sowards, has been in the mission field a little more than two weeks. He seems to really enjoy the beauty of Washington and the companionship of the elders. He is in Port Orchard at present and he says his trainer, Elder Neilson is great. Chris has a strong spirit and I know that those who come in contact with him while he is serving his mission will find a life-long friend. While we miss him terribly (out house is sooo quiet), we are joyful that he has chosen to serve.

I think you have to register to post things on the website, but it's not very difficult to register. Your son is serving in my ward, what a cool missionary!
