David Richard Sarasin, age 48, of 7425 US Hwy 2/41/M-35, Gladstone, MI died unexpectedly at work Tuesday June 20, 2006 while working in the woods.

David was born August 10, 1957 in Northland, MI the son of Alfred “Bud” and Mildred (Hurkman) Sarasin. He was raised in Watson until the age of 10 when his family moved to Escanaba. He was a 1977 graduate of Escanaba High School. Following graduation he served in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed in San Diego, CA.

Dave was united in marriage on April 26, 1981 to the former Paula Coulter in Huntington Beach, CA. and they returned to Watson following Dave’s honorable discharge from the Navy in May of 1981, where they continued to live until they moved to Gladstone a little over a year ago. Dave was employed for many years with Marvin Nelson Forest Products where he was a Logging Equipment Operator.

Dave was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he enjoyed working with the youth of the church. He enjoyed helping people and spending time working in his yard. He loved building things and spending time outdoors. Dave cherished spending time with his family, especially playing with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Paula, survivors include:

2 sons: Dan Sarasin of Escanaba, Eric (Heather) Sarasin of Watson

1 daughter: Andrea Sarasin of Escanaba

5 brothers: Dale (Micki) Sarasin of Brampton, John (Laura) Sarasin of Flat Rock, Daryl (Rose) Sarasin of Cornell, Donald (Karen) Sarasin of Winter Haven, FL, Jeff (Lynn) Sarasin of Gladstone

3 Sisters:, Pam (Dan) Keskimaki of Gwinn, Carol (Mark) Lippold of Escanaba, Joanne (Larry) Peterson of Gladstone

3 Grandchildren:, Kyla and Olivia Sarasin of Watson, Brooke Sarasin of Escanaba

Numerous nieces and nephews and several cousins

He was preceded in death by his father Alfred “Bud” Sarasin

Dave’s family will receive friends on Friday from 3:00 PM to 5:45 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Gladstone American Legion Post #71 Military Rites will follow at 5:45 PM. Funeral services celebrating the life of David Richard Sarasin will follow at 6:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home with President James G. Betzold of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating. Luncheon will follow at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Escanaba. Burial will be held in the Northland Cemetery.
