Served: 1972 - 1974 | Language(s) spoken:Spanish | Areas Served: Resistencia: Hna. LindaGeuder, companion. | Your Occupation: Home maker | Spouse: Richard | Comments: Resistencia was my first area in June of 1974. Hermana Linda Geuder was my companion. We were sent by President Joseph T. Bentley to reopen the area to sisters. At that time there was a fledgling branch. THe Fernadez family and the Acosta family, Sr. Roca, and a few others were the mainstays. THere were four elders sent in an effort to get the work going. My companion and I were instrumental in approaching the TV station and getting free programing for a family home evening. That was exciting and promoted the favorable exposure of the church. We were also able to have a reception hall donate their facility to the church so we were able to stage an open house. I was honored to serve in Resistencia for 7 months. We were able to teach and baptise the Escalante family. The ELders were also able to teach and baptise a family. The work was difficult and slow. We also had several floods, and locust swarm infestations. The door approach we used in the mission was a family home evening discussion. We had fairly good success visiting with the family the first visit, having the father lead the home evening, teaching the family to pray, and after the home evening to talk about the restoration, and ask to return for another visit at which time we would carry on with the charlas. |
