After finishing our missions over 7 years ago, Eliza (formerly Sister Sunnex) and I finally get to fly back to Melbourne from 18th November to 26th November. We’d love to hear from anyone there who knew us and would like to catch up. Our son Peter, almost 3, will also be with us.
We are still in Hamilton, NZ (since 2001), and are enjoying serving in the church here in the Glenview Stake (Lake Ward). Last year I got called into the High Council where I look after Music and Primary in the stake and the Hamilton East Ward where we lived for the first 3 years of our marriage. The ward includes U. of Waikato and has several Chinese students who have joined the church. So I still get opportunities to be involved in missionary work and translating and supporting the Chinese speaking missionaries in Hamilton. I am trying to talk to Peter only in Chinese too, but despite understanding me ok his responses are all in English!
Eliza was just called as the Young Women's president so that will be a busy transition for us. As if that wasn't enough, last week she started back teaching at Ngaruawahia High School (just out of Hamilton), where she has taught on and off since 2002 taking time out to be a full-time Mum. She is back for 3 terms covering for a teacher on maternity leave. She misses being at home with Peter, but is enjoying the new challenge of being the acting Head of the English department and back teaching.
I have been working in the U. of Waikato Management School as a Business Research Analyst for 3 years now www.waikato.ac.nz/mrc . I bike to work, which is my sole form of exercise other than chasing around Peter, and I live close enough to shoot home for lunch with Eliza and Peter (before she started working again) which has been really nice.
If you’re ever in our area we’d love to see you or hear from you. The church is so true!
