Presidents: J Martell Bird (1970 - 1973) | | Served: 1970 - 1972 | Areas Served: The Entrance, Stafford Hts, Sydney, Newcastle, | Companions: Gaylen R. Hansen | Comments: Looking back thirty years I believe my two years served in the Australia East Mission had the most profound effect on my life for the better than any time dedicated or served though my life. I was drafted into the army immediately upon returning home during Viet nam. only after serving two years full time in the military was I able to go to school and graduate from BYU thanks entirely to the perserverance of Pres. Bird to the Admission Dept. My oldest Son is currently serving in the Canada Nova Scotia mission . When asked for advice about missionary service the single thing I tried to express to him was to love the people as your own family and listen to your mission Pres. He will lead you on the correct path. Pres. Bird is second only to my own father when it comes to the greatest of mentors of my life. |

| LDS QUOTE: |
|
"You are a great army of returned missionaries. Go forward with new zeal and determination, and through your example shine the light of the gospel in this troubled world. This is the Lord's work in which we are engaged. God lives. Jesus is the Christ. We belong to His Church. This is my witness to you in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
