Bicycles in Toledo 17 Feb 2006
This is probably the funniest and scariest thing that happened to us in Toledo. I was serving there with my companion Elder Santos. The sister missionaries had just arrived a few days earlier. They were Sister Nunes and Sister Gemea. We had just recieved permission to buy bicycles for this area. Elder Santos and I loved it. Sister Nunes knew how to ride but Sister Gemea did not. We took one P-Day to teach her. Although she learned she was still very shakey on the bicycle and did not really know how to stop it. We were going to lunch one afternoon. At this time the branch was small and we had to eat together at the members house so we were riding together. During this trip there was a HUGE hill. My companion and me went in front and asked the sisters to go slow and we would wait for them on the other side of the hill. So we started off kinda fast but not too fast. As we were going sister Gemea blew right past us. We thought that she had been practicing so we were rather happy about that. Then her companion came up and said she had lost control and could not stop. We all three stopped. This hill was so big that as you went down it got very steep and you could not see the person in front of you. As we waited to see if she would come up on the other side all we could do was stand in amazement. We figured she would wipe out on the way down and we would find a fragmented sister Gemea. It seemed like it took hours but she finally appeared on the other side of the hill. She slowly rolled to a stop as gravity slowed her down and then she fell over sideways. We rushed to her side she was as white as a ghost. She said that she prayed screaming all the way down. We were very thankful no one was hurt. Needless to say we walked the rest of the way to lunch.
