Comments:
I lived in Sao Paulo during this time with my parents, Wm. Grant and Geraldine Bangerter. We were close to the Saul Olivera family.

My younger brother Layne and I were missionaries in almost every sense - serving with our parents and splitting with the Elders several times a week. We attended district and zone meetings and taught lessons and worked hard.

We would take the bus from Morumbi (the Temple was being constructed) to Praca das Bandeiras (about an hour ride) to meet up with Elder Fisher and Elder Bushman downtown. Then -- at about 10:00 PM we would deliver them to their apartments and catch our bus home, often arriving there (on Francisco Morato, near the Temple) at about midnight.

Many times I did this alone, but frequently it was with Layne. The Elders were our heros. We also worked with Elder Van Fleet, and my Father's Assitants, Elder Duffles, Elder Hatch, Elder Dumkey, Elder Arndt and others.

Brother Jose Lombardi was Stake Patriarch. Vila Sonia was a small branch. Brother Alidair Barbeir was the bishop of the Pinheios ward. We met in an old house/mansion as the stake center next to the temple was not yet finished. Both Layne and I worked on the Temple construction under the direction of brother Jensen for wages of about 25 Cents a day. We worked along with a number of Baianos, shoveling and moving dirt. We were "bem caipeira". We both served missions. I went to the Sao Paulo South and then to the Portugal Mission from 1978-1980 and Layne served in Portugal from 1981-83.

We are both Married. I have 7 children and am an Attorney, I live in American Fork, Utah. My brother Layne has 8 children and is an environmental advisor to Senator Crapo, and lives in Melba, Idaho. Our parents are doing well. Dad is 87 and still farms his land in Alpine Utah and mom is 81. We love our Brazilian heratige and the Oliveira family. We were in the ward with them during those years and were close to all the family. Those were happy and memorable times.
