Comments:
My life has changed so much since I last posted that I can scarcely believe it has only been 6 months.
In early November I found out that my father had liver cancer and that it had spread to his lungs. He had a rare type of cancer that the doctors said was so slow moving that he had a few years left to live.
After much prayer I received an overwhelming witness from the Lord that my father was in his hands and that everything was going to be OK. I also had the distinct impression that this didn't necessarily mean that his life would be spared.
My dad passed away on December 18th, just weeks later.
A couple of days before I learned of my dad's cancer, I worked up the courage to ask out a beautiful Salvadoran girl (the aforementioned Guanaca) named Karen Oliva that I met in the singles' ward. When I found out about the cancer I was so depressed that I decided there was no way I would be able to go through with the date. Later that week I received that comforting witness and I was able to follow through with the date.
Although she was unaware of the cancer for a while, Karen helped me through one of the most difficult periods of my life. It all makes sense now, that God would've sent my future wife to help me through my father's death...
On June 30th Karen and I will be sealed for time and all eternity in the St. Paul Temple.
I love this Gospel! I am so grateful to have the knowledge that through the sacred ordinances of the temple not only will I be able to see my father again, but I will also have the privilege of being eternally sealed to the most wonderful girl in the universe. I know that the Savior lives and that his atonement provides us the way back to the presence of our Heavenly Father where we will be reunited with our loved ones. I know that more trials lie ahead, but I also know of a surety that God is wise in his purposes and that as we follow his command, we will be blessed beyond comprehension. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
