Presidentes: Thurn J. Baker (1973 - 1976) | Merlin O. Baker (1976 - 1979) | | Sirvió: 1975 - 1977 | Áreas: Windsor, NFLD; Houlton, ME; New Castle, NB; Port Hawksbury, NS; Presque Isle, ME | Compañeros: Bert V Israelsen | | Esposo(a): Lara Smith Daines | Comentarios: Cold Days in Canada were thirty years ago for me, but to quote from the movie Bagger Vance “…it was only a moment ago.” Those were the days of my early formulation and an opportunity to learn fortitude. During the intervening years I have seen many of my old companions and friends from the mission days and rejoice each time. I have been back to the Maritimes a few times, and will never forget the experiences and people that flood my memories.
Now after twenty-six years of marriage to Lara Smith, four children, and a life time of trials and triumphs, I still feel blessed by those too few days, as a fulltime elder in the wilds of Canada. Several years ago when Merlin Baker held a reunion, it was wonderful to refresh the memories and acquaintances. It brought to mind Elder Neal Maxwell speaking to us at Zone conference on a windy September day in Truro, NS. He quoted from the Bard’s Henry V … likening those proud old soldiers who “… Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named …and say tomorrow is St. Crispian’s” to all of us and how we would feel when Canada Halifax is mentioned. |
