Taylorsville, Utah-Jay Vernon Tipton, 66, of Taylorsville, Utah, passed away June 2, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born in Provo Utah, March 11, 1947, to Vernon John Tipton and Norma Russell Tipton. He graduated from MacArthur High School in San Antonio, Texas and continued his studies at Brigham Young University where he served as the Fifth Squadron Leader Administrative Officer at the 855th Detachment in the ROTC. He interrupted his studies to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Chile from 1966-68 and then to work two summers in Jackson Hole, Wyoming helping with river rafting. In 1970, Jay received his BS in math and computer science from Brigham Young University as a commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force and was stationed at Sheppard Field, Texas. Jay was later assigned to Headquarters Strategic Air Command, Offut Air Force Base, Omaha, Nebraska where he met and married June Walker on July 14, 1972 in the Ogden Temple. They later divorced. After earning his Masters Degree from the University of Kansas, he was transferred to the Pentagon in Washington DC. In 1981, Jay was transferred to Colorado Springs where he tracked satellites for NORAD in the Cheyenne Mountain Colorado Springs Complex. He was later stationed in Battle Creek Michigan and Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. After twenty years of service as a computer specialist in the Air Force, Jay retired in 1992 and began working for the Salt Lake County Tax Assessor's Office and teaching classes in quantum math at the Salt Lake Community College. Jay is survived by his son Ethan Russell Tipton of Pleasant Grove Utah, son Matthew Robert Warnick (Natalie) of Billings Montana, and son Bryson John Warnick (Emily) of Lehi Utah; grandchildren Abigail Nicole, Carter Robert, Collin Matthew, Emma J., Bailey, and Jack Bryson, sister, Dianne T. King (Springville, Utah), brother Russell Thomas Tipton (Mesa, Arizona), sister and brother-in-law , John and Marsha Jacobson (Muncie, Indiana) and brother and sister-in-law David and Margaret Tipton (Elk Ridge, Utah). He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon John Tipton and Norma In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or to the Vernon J.
