I'm coming to LA 14 Jun 2007
I'll be coming to L.A. for some work training from 6/27/07 to 7/12/07 and would love to meet up with any old friends from my era that live in that erea now. If this is you then let me know where you are, so we can meet up.

Also, if anybody happens to know of a place that I could rent a room during this time, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks & God bless,
Tobin Lay

Talk by Sister Goo, available online 21 May 2007
Sister Helen Goo gave a fantastic talk at this year's Women's Conference in which she shares interesting details of her family history. After my wife told me about it I looked it up and found that you can hear and/or view it online... here's the link:

http://www.byub.org/womensconf/

(Copy to your browser's address bar if it doesn't hot link.) You'll see her talk in the list ("Increasing Our Faith") so just click on a link to the right to hear or view it.

Sister Goo shared many inspiring stories that I hadn't heard before of her family's experiences leaving China, her joining the church and the challenges that followed. There are also some great photos of her youth and also of Brother Goo and their kids.

Best regards all!

Guangzhou - relocation 25 Apr 2007
I'm considering a job that would require relocating to Guangzhou, and am looking for advice and information from anyone who has been there more recently than me (8 years ago).
The company is located in the Tianhe district so if you know of any nice expat apartments in that area or can provide any current information about Guangzhou that would be appreciated. I'll probably be heading over in May or July to take a look. Any advice on regotiating the relocation package would also be helpful. thanks, Benjamin Adams

Summer Job Opportunity 03 Apr 2007
This summer i was planning on participating in a sales internship for a Austin based pest control company called Bug Guys. The team is being ran by a really good friend of mine. Last summer the lowest selling associate came home with about 15 thousand dollars. the highest was around thirty. The team is small so the mananger realy works with the team and really helps them to sucseed. Also the technitians have a 100% service record. Like i was saying I was planning on going but i found out that if i go it puts my graduation date back. I am un able to go, but i was woundering if any of you knew anyone who could use some extra money to pay for tuition. If so this really is a safe bet. Right now they are looking to fill three vacancies this summer. Please contact me if you or anyone you know is interested. I hope things are going well for yah. Keep in touch

Love,
Jasen

Flash Cards 05 Feb 2007
Does anyone know where I can get those wonderful chinese character flash cards we had in the mission field? I used to have them, but gave them away to an American-Chinese girl that was hoping to learn characters. Now that my Chinese has gotten pretty rusty, I would like to brush up on my skills. I have found similar flash cards on the internet, but they don't have the Cantonese pingyam. Thanks.

Trying to contact Gary Lew 23 Oct 2006
Hi all! I'm trying to contact Gary Lew. I think he might have just sent me an email...but unfortunately I was in the process of doing mass deletes, and you know the moment you click "Yes For Sure" THAT'S when you see the lone email that is necessary!

Since he & I generally only have contact when it involves genealogy (his or mine) I'm anxious to find out if he did email me.

If you could either pass my email along to him (PCDirector@gmail.com) or email it to me off line, I'd really appreciate it.

Hope everyone is doing well and would love to hear from you!

Searching for Former Companion 05 Oct 2006
Hello HK RMs,
My wife and I just moved to Stanford for law school. I have two kids, three-year-old Jeremy and one-year-old Sabrina. I really wanted to go to the reunion, but had neither the money or time to fly out. Even so, we love it out here! I would really like to hear from anybody I taught in the MTC or served with in HK. In particular, I am trying to track down my old companion David Walton: he used to live in the Bay Area. If any of you know of his whereabouts, please respond to this message or e-mail me directly at ccfunk@stanford.edu.

Need email address for HK Mission Office 16 Aug 2006
I called and talked to Sister Page who said she would email me information. She gave me an email address. She did not email me. Also, she did not give me a valid email address.

Does anyone know how to reach the office via email. I just called there and got the message machine (it should be about 3 pm there).

Specifically, she is supposed to get me information on how to pick up my son in December. He is released on Dec 15 @ 9 am and we need the information to start making travel arrnagements. Supposedly, we have to first try to make arrangements through the Church. Any insights?

Returnign BYU student - what class to take? 02 Aug 2006
My son returns from the China Hong Kong mission (Cantonese-speaking) in December and will re-enroll at BYU for Winter 2007 in January. What language class should he take? Cantonese or Mandarin, and which one specifically? Is there a "test out" program to get credits and good grades like happened for me many years ago with Spanish when I returned from Paraguay?

Important to Participate 27 Jul 2006
Greetings! This message is to all the missionaries who served with President and Sister Ong. As you may well know, President and Sister Ong will be coming back from serving in Hong Kong soon. One of their sons, Jared, wants to put a DVD slideshow together. The Chinese Branch that President Ong was Branch President for years ago in Los Angeles wants to have a reunion for their homecoming in Orange County on Saturday, August 19th. We are all invited to come, honor and celebrate with them. Most likely, it will be in a chapel in Costa Mesa, CA on a Saturday night. It could also be a church dress event because Jared will call upon two returned missionaries to give a talk about serving in Hong Kong with President and Sister Ong. To close the meeting, Jared wants to show the DVD slideshow.

Here is where we come in. This is what Jared has in mind. He wants memorable pictures so the audience, ourselves, and President and Sister Ong will feel the spirit of gratitude and the marvelous work and wonder we were apart of in Hong Kong. The pictures can be of us while we were serving in Hong Kong. They can be of us after we served in Hong Kong. They can be pictures of Hong Kong buildings and chapels or the uniqueness of its scenery. They can also be of special moments with friends, members, investigators and family that we have had with President and Sister Ong. These are just a couple of ideas that would bring smiles to our faces. So, lets dust off the Hong Kong picture box or open the computer file of Hong Kong pictures, and search through them to find the ones that you would like to point out and have on the DVD slideshow. Now, there are no guarantees your pictures will be on the slideshow, but at least you put forth the effort and that's what counts. Maybe they could be on the slideshow that we do for the mission reunion before October General Conference? Anyways, Jared wants to make this a special present for his parents. So please, please participate and send us your pictures, but not too many.

If you have any questions, you can call me or Jared. Send the pictures to Jared's email address, jaredong@gmail.com, and that will be sufficient for us to do our best. We need these pictures by the end of July, so the cut off date for now is August 1st. Later, we will send out more information and details about how the DVD is coming along and the Chinese Branch reunion. Thank you and hope to receive contact from you soon.

Sincerely,
Scott Omae
