| This story is to illustrate the love and compassion of President Kimball.
While serving in my last area of my mission, in Puerta Plata, President Kimball came to the island to have a conference with the membership and the missionaries.
The trip from Puerta Plata to Santo Domingo is about a 5 hour drive (if I remember correctly).
I was on a split and had gone to Santo Domingo the previous day but the branch members loaded a bus and left for the conference early on the morning of the conference.. which was later that night. The bus broke down several times and was delayed. All through the conference I kept looking for them, wondering why they weren't there. After the conference was over and President Kimball had gone up to his hotel room, the bus finally arrived. We went to the Presidents assistant and explained the situation and he went up to the president Kimballs' room. President Kimball was getting ready for bed but was moved by the situation and came back down and recapped the conference for that branch and then opened it up for questions and answers!!! It was something that I'll never forget! |
