Dear Steve,
I served in the Santo Domingo West mission from 93 to 95 and it is una pais de maravillas. Every day I think of something that happened and I long for the Dominican people. They are so loving and they enthusiastic about Jesus Christ. Not all will commit to doing the right things but you will learn so much about yourself and about serving the Lord Jesus Christ. I served mostly in the capital and so you can find almost anything you want if you have enough money to pay for it. The thing that helped me was buying 14 short sleeve white shirts. I used ten to start the mission and then had four new shirts for the second half of my mission. We had maids to wash our clothes and they got them clean but in the process beat them to death so that you would have holes in your shirts and garments. I took three pairs of shoes,again using two the first year and then having a brand new pair the second year. If you do this be sure to take shoe horns to keep the shoes stretched out.
