Comments:
It will probably come as a surprise to anyone who knew me very well, but I am no longer a member of the LDS church. After many years of frustration with the doctrines and practices of the church, my wife and I left of our own accord and requested that our names be removed from the church membership files. The experiences I had on my mission were among the key reasons why we left. Looking back, I am amazed at the cult-like control that the church exerts over its missionaries. And the thought of passing judgment on people and consigning them to hell because their personal life experiences lead them to different conclusions and beliefs that those taught by the missionaries sickens me now even more than it did during my mission. Now that I have been in contact with many other ex-mormons, and even many currently active mormons who served as missionaries in Europe, it is clear that the church's missionary program is based on emotional blackmail and pressure to meet mormon societal expectations.
