Comments: I began my mission in the Eastern States Mission waiting for a visa. Our group of missionaries was the first to receive a French visa as "missionnaire mormon". At that time the temporary mission home was in Geneva. It was while I was on my mission that the Church was formerly recognized by the French government, and that the first mission home in Paris was purchased. At that time other than the mission home, we had no Church-owned buildings to meet in. My wife and I had the privilege of serving as mission president and wife in the West Indies Mission (Mission des Antilles), headquartered in Trinidad. Our mission started with St. Martin on the north down to the three Guyanas in South America on the south. They are French Guiana, Suriname (Dutch), and Guyana (English). Our French areas also included Martinique and Guadeloupe. We served from July 1994 to June 1997. |
