Come out to Raleigh and kick it!
I've been living back in Raleigh for about a year now after spending a few years in DC. I haven't been here since high school really and I never realized how fun Raleigh is. I've been working for the past year at a local think tank (www.johnlocke.org) following state politics and writing mostly about energy policy.
I'm starting a PhD program in economics at NC State in the fall. I applied to schools on every coast in the country and wound up staying right here in Raleigh. Go figure. I'm also looking at buying a house in the next few months as I'm now sure I'll be in one place for at least 4 or 5 years. Never been able to say that before.
Still not married, of course. Some people always bring that up, but I'm not really sure I'm quite sold on the whole monogamous relationship concept - especially when there are so many girls in this town. Crazy.
I've been doing a lot of boxing tournaments lately to stay in a little bit of shape and make some extra cash on the side. It's pretty fun, although I'm not yet as good as I am at wrestling. They may make MMA legal in NC soon, though, and I'm pretty stoked about that. My colleagues at the think tank seem to have a great time going to my boxing matches and I've kind of developed a special reputation as the "free-market hit man." (My shaved head and goatee help out with that too, I guess.)
Hopefully, I'll be able to make it back to Paris sometime...or maybe I'll make it out to a reunion one day (it's just hard for me to rationalize spending vacation time where it's not warm and there's no beach). Until then, keep it real.
