Posted to East German border in Army (attended church in Braunschweig, then was transferred to Augsburg for 6 months); graduated BYU dbl major Russian & German in 1978; married Claudia Rigby of Provo (BYU grad same year) after proposing in Provo Temple Celestial Room; 1979-1983 in grad school at Ohio State U. (Russian and Bulgarian, primarily - plus some French). Since 1983 serving Uncle Sam in Washington D.C. area. Two children, son Fred (Computer Systems Administrator at two Johns Hopkins campuses) adopted from wife's first marriage (same first name is coincidence) whose wife is working on Psych PhD, and daughter Meadow Leigh, who recently married Nick Englund (orig. from SLC), a lawyer. Currently Gospel Doctrine Teacher in local Branch and Annapolis Stake Sunday President. Have also learned/worked Caucasian Georgian (rusty now) and learned & taught Scottish Gaelic. Am now hard of hearing, use hearing aids (can hear on phone if you speak up); wife is wheelchair-user after disability retirement from public school teaching, but still tutors & teaches in the home. She also makes historical clothing/costumes and serves as the Stake Sunday School Secretary. |
