Cities and Companions

I started in Dec. 68 in Retalhuleu with William Nelson, then "Jake" Jacobson and Curtis Flowe. Went to Quezaltenango in April, 69 with James Bingham, then "Jack" Prettyman. Went to San Pedro, Sacatepequez in June with Robert Johnson. To Guate. City in July with Gary Welch, then Jimmy Slater (both of whom are reportedly now deceased). In Sept. 69, went to El Salvador for the first time, to Colonia Monserrat in Salvador City, with John Wanberg and living in home of Conception v. de Navarro. (She and her daughter Alicia and son-in-law were murdered in the civil war in the 80s. Her surviving daughter, Virginia Navarro Tsosie, lives with her husband Mike in Murietta, Calif.) Moved back to the western lowland of Guatemala in Nov. 69 to Mazatenango with Michael Van Leeuwen, then Harold Tenney. Then to San Miguel at the southern tip of El Salvador in Jan. 70 with Bryan Lee Snedaker, then Wade Workman. Then in March, 70, from the southern to the northern extreme of the mission, to Huehuetenango, Guatemala, with Ken Everson, then Doug Boyack. Then a third trip to the western lowland, to Reu again, in June, 70, with Ronald Gardner. Then to Santa Ana, El Salvador, in July 70, with Leslie Saunders, then Ira Hatch. Then a return to Guate. City, in Sept. 70, with Scott Donkin, then Ray Proctor.

Other Comments

I've kept/reestablished contact with Ken Everson (Southern Cal) Wayne Tucker (So. Cal.) John Melville (So. Cal.) Doug Boyack (Central Cal.) D. Kirk Drussel (East Coast) Lee Snedaker (Colorado) James Bingham (No. Utah) Wade Workman (Arizona) Harold Tenney (Arizona) have good reports on a number of others, and recently got a Christmas letter from Mont Ashworth and family.

But I'd still like to find E. Carter (can't remember his first name) and Steven Ray Proctor. Reportedly both are from the So. Cal area where I now am.

I'm always interested in news of the old mission and of the missionaries of that era. Please email. Would be happy to respond.

As John Melville said when he heard that in the little Guatemalan town whose LDS branch had no one show up for church when he was branch president, but that same town now had two stakes:

"I DIDN'T KNOW WE WERE REVOLUTIONARIES?!"
