Fasting for Jose Miguel 29 Feb 2012
This year 2012 in Janurary, I found out that a family who had cooked (members from Villa Lobos with whom I was very close) for me on my mission had a son who needed an operation. I was very concerned and contacted the family to find out how their little boy was doing. They told me that their son, Jose Miguel, had been troubled by an infection for some time and that a local physician had recommend an operation asap. However, the family would have to come up with the equivalent of $1,500.00 before the hospital would agree to the operation. The total cost would be about 3000 U.S. dollars but they could pay the remainder over time. Well, this family would never come up with even the principle amount until long after the little boy was beyond repair. I was sick when I heard the cost for I knew they couldn't cover it. However, we all decided that we would fast together for Jose Miguel. From the outset of Janurary until last Sunday our families fasted every Sunday. We prayed for Jose in every prayer (as did his family) and our family & extended family began to set aside pennies to save up to help their family pay for the operation. Last Sunday night as we knelt by our bed, our hearts were heavy and our prayers sincere on behalf of Jose. The next day, Monday, at 7am our phone rang. I hurried to answer the phone so the ringing wouldn't wake our babies. It was Jose's mother. In a joyful voice she told us that Jose Miguel had already been operated upon! Then she related to me the miracle: During the previous week she had been going about her usual chores at home and the Spirit prompted her to take Jose Miguel and go to the hospital where their physician worked. They did not have an appointment, but she knew the Spirit was speaking and she obeyed. When she and Jose got to the hospital, the physician was not a busy as usual. When they requested a visit with him, he had them in right away. He examined Jose Miguel and suggested that he do the operation that day. Jose's mother told him that she did not have the payment required for the operation. The doctor decided right then that he would not charge their family for his services on behalf of Jose Miguel. They called us right away so we could know that the Lord had heard our prayers and seen our fasting. He does love all his children and he listens to the prayers of those who strive to live His commandments. It was truly a miracle. Now Jose is recuperating and his humble, good family does not carry the burden of debt either. We are all so thankful to our Heavenly Father who allows us to see His hand in our lives. April Jensen
