Stories: the phone call
Displaying 1 - 1 of 1 -- Add Story
Eleven years after returning home from my mission, I am rocking my month-old baby girl and the phone rings. One of my seven-year old twin girls answers the phone and hands it to me. I said "Hello" and a young man's voice asked me, "Is this the David Compas that served in the Illinois Peoria Mission?" I said, "yes". The young man seemed overwhelmed because he paused for a minute and then said, "Do you remember the name Steven Crowe?" I said, "uhh...yeah kinda..." Then he went on to say, "You taught me and my brother the discussions and helped he and I get baptized 11 years ago.
He went on to say how he had just returned home from serving a mission in the Nevada Las Vegas Mission and that he was getting married in the Nauvoo temple this coming December.
It was a wonderful feeling to listen to his story and to think of how his life had been so blessed because of his decisions to follow the commandments of God.
This event took place in December of 1991, in Bloomington. Elder Greg Clark and I were serving together and we had an awesome few months of success. We have contacted each other since this and we plan to attend a wedding reception for Steven in South Jordan, Utah, in December.
If anyone knows Steven it would be great to hear from you and perhaps we can all meet at his reception.
I am so glad to have served a mission in Illinois. I will always treasure the memories of the people I got to know and the things I learned. This experience has brought much of it back to me. |

LDS QUOTE: |
"You are a great army of returned missionaries. Go forward with new zeal and determination, and through your example shine the light of the gospel in this troubled world. This is the Lords work in which we are engaged. God lives. Jesus is the Christ. We belong to His Church. This is my witness to you in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
