Jacob de Jager Jacob de Jager "The Happy Dutchman" 1/16/1923 ~ 2/25/2004 Jacob de Jager passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 25, 2004. Born in The Hague, Netherlands, the youngest of five children, to Alexander Philippus de Jager and Maria Jacoba Cornelia Scheele. After World War II, in 1945, he received military training in England and served for three years as a Welfare officer in the Dutch East Indies on the island of Java. After his demobilization in the Netherlands in 1950, he was employed for 26 years by Philips International Electronics Company, mainly in managerial positions overseas because of his foreign language abilities. Jacob had a unique way of putting everyone at ease with his genuine love of people, infectious smile and sense of humor. While residing with his family in Toronto, Canada, he was converted and baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in May 1960. From that day until the end of his earthly journey he served the Church diligently and with great joy in various domestic and overseas assignments, 17 years of which he served as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy. He also served 14 years on the National Advisory Council of the Marriott School of Management at BYU Provo. Jacob is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Bea, to whom he was sealed in the Swiss Temple in 1966; son Michael de Jager, Ph.D. (Adrienne), Provo; daughter Audrey Inez de Jager Poulson (Ronald Scott), Farmington, Utah; and eight grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him well. The family wishes to express great gratitude to Dr. Gary Alexander, Dr. Howard J. Wing and Dr. Michael Beus for their excellent and loving care. Funeral services will be held Mon., March 1, 2004 at 12 noon, at the Ensign Stake Center, 135 N. 'A' Street. Friends and family may visit Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and Mon. from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to services at the Stake Center. Interment, Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
