Dear Friends,
You may be tired of reading my emails by now. I will try to keep it short. There are just two more members’ homes that I wish to report.
The Sudiyo family has been building a home in the countryside for nine years. Going slow because he just builds as he gets the money together. It is almost ready to move in. The damage is not too bad. Several cracks in walls and some roof damage.
The house of Brother Setiyanto Nugroho and his family is quite seriously damaged. One internal wall partially collapsed and one external wall is severely cracked and will need to be torn down. When we got there he was already busy with the repairs. He and his family are sleeping at the homes of neighbors and church members until the house is ready.
This morning I have been at the Church here in Solo with members preparing thousands of children’s backpacks with books, pencils and so on. These will be distributed by the LDS Charities in Jogja.
Bishop Edgley and Sister Edgley arrived this morning from Salt Lake . They first came here to Solo accompanied by President and Sister Jensen, and the Area Doctor from Hong Kong and his wife. Sorry, I did not get the names. At this time they are visiting a local hospital and touring some of the aftermath of the quake. They will hold a meeting with the missionaries followed by a member fireside meeting this evening.
I think I will head back to Jogja in the morning to work with the members on some of the members’ houses there.
Certain words are being cemented in my mind… merobohkan (collapse), hancur (destroy), miring (crooked), membongkar (tear down). These are words that you don’t use much as a missionary but they come in handy when talking about an earthquake.
Take Care,
Chuck Lambson
