CROWTHER REUNION!!! 15 Mar 2004
We now have the details for the IDM-Crowther reunion 2nd April 2004. The reunion will be held at the Bluffdale Church house on 15000 So. and 2400 W. It is the same church we met at July 2001. The reunion will start at 6:30pm through 8:30pm. The easiest way to get to the church will be to get off the I-15 Bangerter exit and go west. Turn South at Redwood Road (1700 W.) and go to 15000 So. and turn West. Go until you see the church on the left side of the road. We would invite you to bring finger food to share or drinks. We are excited to have the opportunity to met with all of you again. Please come! We send our love, Bob and Brenda Crowther
We thought we would give you an update of our family. Brett was married over a year ago to a girl from Virginia. Brett met her at USU. They just had a baby boy, Dannon, the 9th of December 2003. They live in Mendon a town west of Logan. They are doing well. Brandt will be home from his mission in August 2004. He is serving in the New York South Mission. He loves the work and still enjoys having fun. We have six of our eight children married now. We have 16 grandchildren with two more on the way this Spring. We are both healthy and enjoying life. Together we are teaching Institute classes for the married students. We are enjoying serving in the Church also. We look forward to seeing you.

St Patricks Day Parade 09 Mar 2004
Anyone know the date and time of the St Patricks Day Parade? Is it the 13th or 20th?
Help - please...................

We as former missionaries and families should get together for the St Patricks Day parade and walk in it. Anyone else like that idea - maybe plan on it for next year and each year after. I think it would be a blast!!!!!

Dublin Reunion 27 Feb 2004
For those planning to attend the 2005 Dublin reunion I would recommend that you start saving for it now. A safe amount is $2000.00 if you are traveling from the US for a 10 day trip. That should cover air, lodging, (we feel we shouldn’t burden the members for lodging as we could easily overwhelm them with the numbers that are coming) rental car, food and other expenses. If you travel in small groups you could do it for less. You can start by saving a few hundred dollars a month and or using your tax returns. It’s going to be a great reunion. There will be some poles coming in the next few months to see what everybody would like to do. We would like to do a service project of some kind. Email me if you have something in mind.
All the best, Brad

Mission stories from Ireland 14 Feb 2004
My Wife is doing a 20 page paper about the missionary work in Ireland for her international church class at BYU. We are looking for mission stories as well as conversion stories. Please help us. Do not think that because you do not know me or my wife that you can not help us. Yes I am talking to you! Not only would this be helpful for the paper but it would be a neat idea for a future book.

I am looking for Fiacre Byrne. I served with him in Waterford in April 1998, and we were transfered together to Lucan and served there til the end of July 1998. I was in touch with him for a while but I don't know where he is now. He is from Graiguenamanagh, Co. Kilkenny, but the last I knew he was living in Greenisland, north of Belfast. If anyone knows of his whereabouts, please contact me. My e-mail is dan@hrcp.com Thanks,

The Dublin Gibneys 30 Dec 2003
My bad, folks--apologies for getting the names wrong. I meant Susan Gibney, formerly of Dublin--not another Karen. I knew that. The Dublin Gibneys are Susan and Debbie. When you get past forty, the synapses start to burn out (although some of my companions had begun to suspect it happened with me at a younger age. . . . )
But I am still trying to get in touch with the Gibney sisters of Belfast, whom Farnsworth and I baptized in late 1975 in the Cavehill Ward--named Karen and Kim--back when Bishop Reid was newly bishop. At the time, Karen was about 18 or 19, and Kim was 15 or 16. So far, I have gotten an unconfirmed sighting of one of them in Utah, which would be tragic.
Any news?

Mission Reunion in Dublin!!! 23 Dec 2003
To all Missionaries and Irish Members!

The other day I thought how great it would be to have a Ireland Dublin Mission reunion in Dublin Ireland. I have spoken to a few of my companions and others that I knew from Ireland and the idea seems to have some potential. Paul Stilgoe told me about someone from his ward that had a mission reunion in Scotland. While there they looked up old contacts and members who they had known or who had gone inactive. Apparently it helped re-activate some of them. In my recent trip to Ireland the best part was seeing the people I had grown to love so much, but had not seen for so many years. Time would not permit me with my group of five to find all of the people I wanted to see. What I envision is a reunion in Dublin, (Finglas) in the summer of 2005 I would like to plan it around a stake conference. That way with many members from all over Ireland in town it would make it easer for us to see them and for them to see us. Missionaries let me know what you think. Members in Ireland what do you think? I would be willing to help put this it together. But I am sure that I would need a lot of help. It thinking that it would be open to all missionary from the beginning of the mission including Missionaries from the Scotland Glasgow mission who served in the North.
Email me with a I’m Interested or I’m Not Interested. Please indicate if you are a Irish member or a missionary.
Thanks Brad Cox

Special Video of President Tipton 18 Dec 2003
I have a special treat for you.

I think you know that President Tipton appears in “Saints at War.” That documentary is available on video. If you do not have it I highly recommend it to you.

Here’s the special treat.

Sister Tipton was given a video tape that contains the entire interview that was done with President Tipton. It is outstanding and lasts about an hour. Only a few minutes of the interview were used in the documentary, so this tape offers some wonderful information.

The interview was completed just shortly before President Tipton passed away. The documentary did not come out until later. Sister Tipton thinks he does not look well in the interview, but although his health was failing I treasure this very wonderful tape.

Pres. Tipton tells the details of his experience serving in WWII, which includes being shot down, extensive time in prison camps, escape, recapture, and liberation by Gen. Patton. His story is one of great faith, obedience, and testimony.

I asked Sister Tipton if she would permit me to copy this tape for each missionary from the IDM who would like one. She was reluctant because she thinks President Tipton would not like to do that if he were still here. He was very, very hesitant to talk about his war experiences. He did not want anyone to think he was special because of what he experienced.

However, Sister Tipton said, “President Tipton would have a fit if he knew I was doing this, but that’s what he gets for leaving us, huh?”

Having this tape is a wonderful blessing. I plan to use it for a home evening, because I want my children to know about President Tipton so that his influence and example can continue.

I have a duplication machine I use in my business. I can make copies for any of you who would like one. In return for the video I would like to ask you to make whatever donation you would like, large or small, to help the Shamrock Fund. This fund is used to help Irish members who need financial assistance to go on a mission. They are also helping to fund a family history center in Ireland.

To obtain a copy of the tape please just write back to me. Tell me where to send it and how much you are willing to donate. I would ask you to consider sending as much as possible. I think most of us on this list can afford to be very generous. If, however, you are unable to make a large donation please consider at least $20 for the fund. After I hear back from you I will send you an invoice from PayPal so you can pay with a credit card, or you can mail a check if you prefer.

I would like to collect as much as we can gather between now and the end of January. At that time I will take the total collected and turn it over to the Shamrock Fund as a single donation from our group. My goal is for us to collect $3,000 or more. This will go a long way to supporting a missionary. If you can dig deep and donate $100 or more it will be of great help. Sister Tipton has already donated $250 and wants you to know that she thinks this is a great way for us to remember President Tipton. Please consider matching her donation.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could collect enough to support one missionary for an entire mission! I believe we can accomplish that. Think of the blessings of your mission, and of your association with President and Sister Tipton. I know the Lord will bless us as we stretch ourselves in sacrifice to others the way he did so often.

I will be happy to make a tape and send it to you, and I will report to everyone in February at the conclusion of this effort to let you know the results. This will be a VHS tape. I do not have duplication facilities to make DVDs.

Unfortunately, I only have e-mails for about 60 missionaries from the IDM. Please let others know of this opportunity. Please forward this to everyone who knew President Tipton.

Sincere appreciation,

David Bresnahan

P.S. I promise you that when you watch this tape your testimony will grow, and President Tipton will have one more opportunity to bless your life. Even if you did not serve with President Tipton I am confident this video will bless your life and we would appreciate your help with this project.

Derrick Reunion? 04 Dec 2003
Is anyone interesting in getting a Derrick reunion together? (It would also include a number of Child and Pugh folks, too--a lot of overlapping.) I am thinking of this coming summer, rather then Gen. Conf. time, so that I would be able to come. ;-) Has there been any talk about this? I saw a few folks at the 20-year Reunion with the Pughs in Provo in the summer of 1997. I would like to see more.
Also--does anyone know the whereabouts of either of the Gibney sisters? Not the ones everyone knows about in Dublin--Karen and Debbie, who both married Yanks and immigrated. I am talking about Karen (yes, there are two) and Kim Gibney of Belfast, baptized in the Cavehill Ward in Fall 1975. Any news?

Ireland Mission Song 01 Dec 2003
President Summerhayes had us all learn this song and I have never forgotten it!
I Love the Ireland Mission
(Music: 251, Behold a Royal Army
I love the Ireland mission,
the finest in the world.
My greatest opportunity
to bring in to the fold,
the precious blood of Israel
from these dear verdent isles.
And teach them life eternal
with dilegence and smiles.
Vitory, victory, thru Him that redeemed us!
Victory, victory, thru Jesus Christ our Lord!
Victory, victory, victory,
thru Jesus Christ our Lord!

I still get a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye when ever I sing "Behold , a Royal Army"
and secretly sing the old mission song.

Sad News 29 Sep 2003
I spoke to Sister Tipton and she has asked me to contact you to pass along some sad news.

Yesterday morning (Sunday), Brother Wes Emery died. His funeral will be Thursday at noon in Salt Lake (the chapel is on the corner of 2nd Avenue and 8th Street--2nd Avenue is a continuation of North Temple). I will forward to you his obituary when it comes out.

Elder and Sister Emery served in the IDM in the Terenue Branch in approximately 1983-84. Perhaps you noticed the brief news story about the Terenure Ward in the Sep. 27 issue of the Church News. It mentioned that Bishop Colin Dunne was please with the largest turn out ever by members for a special cleaning project on Sep. 14. I am sure Elder Emery was pleased with the growth of the Church in Ireland. If you are in contact with members of the Church in Ireland please let them know of his passing.

I spoke with Sister Emery this morning and she said to let you know that it was a blessing because he had been so ill for some time. In the event you would like to send a card to Sister Marjorie Emery you can send it to 171 East 3rd Ave #503, Salt Lake City, UT 84103.

In addition Sister Tipton also thought you might want to know that former Belfast Stake President and Sister Lowry had to leave their mission (Leeds) because Sister Lowry has cancer. If you happen to have their mailing address in Belfast Sister Tipton would like to have it so she can send a card.

I spoke with Sister Tipton this morning and she is well. She expressed her best wishes to all Ireland Dublin Missionaries.

I continue to maintain the list of missionaries for Sister Tipton. If your address changes, or if you become aware of the contact info for any of our missionaries I would appreciate getting an update from you.

Best wishes,

David Bresnahan
