Presidents: Mario V. Vaira (1989 - 1992) | Served: 1991 - 1992 | Areas Served: Bari, Foggia, Palermo, Catania | Companions: Rebecca Ann Hovey (Woffinden) | Your Occupation: soccer mom, former university instructor | Spouse: Robert | Comments: After my mission I returned to my French studies (with an Italian minor, of course!), and earned my BA and MA at BYU. I also studied and worked in several foreign countries, which gave me the opportunity for three return trips to Italy (mostly Bari, to visit Gabriella Violante-Valentini).
I was teaching French and pursuing my Ph.D. at the University of Virginia when I met and married Robert Freeman, inheriting his *FIVE* children. The oldest two girls are now out on their own, but I'm still a full-time mom to three teenagers aged 14, 17 and 18. We're gearing up to get our 18-year-old ready for a mission of his own, which completely blows my mind! ;-)
Fortunately, this hasn't stopped me from traveling, as I still accompany my husband on lots of foreign and domestic trips, for both business and pleasure.
We recently moved from Chicago to the Salt Lake area, when Robert took a job managing the database development team for the Church.
I'm no longer teaching, but I still write. I've had a couple of stories published in the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series of books, including one featuring one of my mission experiences. I'm also working on my first novel, wish me luck!
My mission has enriched every aspect of my life, and I still fondly remember many of the friendships I made. |
