Where was the Nayoro apato? 14 Dec 2001
Benito Choro, Where is Nayoro? I've never heard of that area. Is that an area that was closed before I got there in July of 93? I'm curious to find out. - Dillon Choro < JSPM '93-'95 > ___ Aloha! Dillon Choro, Thanks for getting back to me. Nayoro (no-man's-land) is between Ashahikawa and Wakanai, right in the middle. The town was so small, that we would get the daily gossip from anyone of the shop owners. I was probably the first Hawaiian in Nayoro, because according to the town gossip they thought I was a Koku-jin, with my dark skin. Nayoro was closed for a long time (since the 70's) and then it was opened again in April, 1991. I was there from Oct. 1991 to Jan. 1992. It was kind of awkward because we lived in Nayoro but the church was in Shibetsu(45 min. train ride). 1/3 of the members of the Shibetsu Branch lived in Nayoro. In the 70's, there were missionaries in both, Nayoro and Shibetsu. We closed Nayoro in Jan. 1992, because of financial reasons. The Branch would pay for our train rides, which was very costly. We would be in Shibetsu for 3 days and Nayoro for 4 days. Brings back alot of good memories. I remember when we first moved to Shibetsu from Nayoro (right across the street from the Church), our apartment bathroom heater wasn't working for a week, so we went to the Ofuro down the road from us. What really freaked me out was, we baptized a sister in the same Ofuro that week. Sorry, for the history lesson but, you asked. Wow! I just missed you, I died in May, 1993. Please write back, glad to here from you. - Benito Choro < JSPM '91-'93 >
