Where was the Kawazoe apato? 16 Dec 2001
Sears Choro, Where is Kawazoe? Maybe it closed down before I got there in '93 like the Odori apartment. - Dillon Choro < JSPM '93-'95 > _____________________________________ Dillon Choro, If I ever become rich enough to have a third or fourth home in Japan I would like to live in the Kawazoe neighborhood of Sapporo. The mission apartment (4 man) was located just west of the Lucky's supermarket that is on the way to Jozankei and Noboribetsu. The Kawazoe neighborhood is behind Mt. Moiwa and is in the Minami-Ku section of Sapporo. The missionaries at the time I was there had everything from Jozankei to Makomanai Koen and everything behind Mt. Moiwa. We went to the Moiwa ward. If you are familiar with Green Hotel Sapporo (IOC hotel during the Sapporo Winter Olympics) we were just right behind that. We had a ton of high schools, prep schools, trade schools and colleges in our area. The residential housing located in Kawazoe is consistently among the most expensive in Sapporo because of the view, access and exclusive nature of the area. Some of the top high schools in Sapporo are in that neighborhood. I don't know how long it was after I left that it was closed but it was closed during my time in Japan. I have business owners who remain good friends to this day that still comment that there isn't any missionaries in that area. I was transferred into that area after spending three months in the Odori Koen apartment (my first area, the other companionship in the Odori apartment was the AP's) I spent the winter months (till the first of March) in Odori (going to teach at the Odori teaching apartment and church at Kotoni Ward) I spent 3 months at the Kawazoe apartment before going to "reopen" the Eniwa apartment with one of the previous AP's who was finishing his last month or two in the mission. I think it was at this time that Wallin Choro became the AP. Eniwa used to have a pretty strong branch but the members had been going to Atsubetsu in Shin-Sapporo or Chitose when we reopened the area. We went to Chitose for church while there, but our area was bordered by the Kawazoe area to the West, the Chitose area to the south, the Atsubetsu area to the north and the interior wastelands of Hokkaido to the east. I stayed there 3 months then headed to the Toko apartment in Asahikawa. - Sears Choro < JSPM '89-'91 >
