Dear former missionaries of JTNM (especially 1979-82)
December 2005 ahas arrived and we start thinking about special friends and family and wonder what happened to the year. We are obviously older, extra wrinkles a little more flab and certainly more than a few grey hairs. However, we are happy and well- what more could we ask.
We are still running around the North Island with Mike being in the Mission Presidency. Mike is still Academic Director of AIS St Helen’s and is kept busy with the challenges that the position presents; I still love being a nurse enough to enjoy going to work three or four days a week. We have Becky and her husband Mark (Wolfersberger) and their two children, Emily and Christopher with us keeping us young and adding joy and hilarity to our lives while Mark tackles his PhD at the University of Auckland.
Number 1 son Adam and wife Michelle enjoy living in Hamilton (near the NZ Temple) where Adam works as a Doctor at Waikato Hospital. Harrison, now two and a half is a bright and happy boy. Adam is serving as the Elders Quorum President in his ward.
Number 2 son Paul and wife Haidee purchased a house in Whakatane at the beginning of the year and have been adding to their house and adding to their family with Baby Esther arriving in June. Wilford is very proud of his baby sister. Paul works as a High School Teacher and has just been called as Second Counselor in the Tauranga Stake Presidency. At just 26 years of age he is feeling very inadequate and quite overwhelmed. We know he will do a good job in his new calling.
We have been richly blessed, but our greatest blessing is the gospel of peace in this troubled world. We ponder anew the wonder of the Saviour's birth this Christmas season and pray that you and yours will feel peace and comfort too. God bless you all and thank you for being our wonderful friends.
With much love
Mike and Christine Roberts
Mission President JTNM (1979-82)

Jones Shimai and Kyoudai wanted me to post a message to tell everyone HELLO! Patrick and I just got back from Japan and spent some time with Komatsu Dendoubuchou in Osaka and spoke with Bro and Sis Jones while we were there.
They are serving another mission in Hiroshima and will be coming home next December. They send there love to all who served with them.
Thanks

Here's a web site with a lot of Off Course CDs.

This may sounds nuts, but does anybody know how I could find some Off Course CDs? I brought some music home with me from Japan, but a car burglary took it long ago and I'd like to replace it if possible. Any information would be helpful.

I'm looking for a family who can accept my daughter as a home stay Host Family for a year from 2006-2007. She is in 10th grade, and planning to study abroad for 1 year.
Because we are LDS church members, we would like to ask a church member who can accept her, and who lives in the district of the High-school that has an ESL program.
We prefer someone lives in Utah.
Please let me know as soon as possible.
Thank you.

Christmas is a wonderful time of year! It brings joy and love into a dreary world all because of a babe born in Bethlehem of Judea. For many of us throughout the world, we turn our thoughts and hearts to the Lord Jesus Christ. As we do so, we tend to be a little more thoughtful, a little kinder and more loving. Our Saviour said, "As I have loved you, love one another." That is the true meaning of Christmas! We love Him more and remember Him more because he has done so much for us! And so we should love our fellow men more, and want to do more and give more of ourselves and share his wonderful gospel with others.
A poem written by Emmett Fox best expresses the power of love:
There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer
No disease enough that love will not heal
No door that enough love will not open
No gulf that enough love will not bridge
No wall that enough love will not throw down
No sin that enough love will not redeem
In a nutshell, a sufficient infusion of true love will disolve all the deeply seated trouble in the world, shatter hopeless outlook and clear up muddled tangles. If we truly want to be the happiest people in the world, we need only love our neighbors as ourselves. How can we show our Saviour how much we love him? As returned missionaries, as his ambassadors, what can we offer to show our love for Him and our gratitude for his birth and life and sacrifice for all of us? We can offer our dedicated service to our fellow men, our time, talents and all that we have to serve and love one another. We can go the extra mile to find and help others on the path towards exaltation. We can forget and lose ourselves in the service of others. We can become, little by little, more like Him.
Christ has no hands but our hands to do His work today.
He has no feet but our feet to lead men His way.
He has no tongue but our tongue to tell men how He died.
He has no help but our help to bring them to His side.
Let's keep Christ as the very centre of this Christmas and feast on Him, for it is His birth that we celebrate this season. As the webmaster of the Japan Tokyo North Mission Alumni site, I wish you all a joyous and happy Christmas! May you feel the love of our Saviour in your hearts and receive a witness that you are a child of God!
Love One Another, p.308 - Luacine Clark Fox (© 1961)
As I have loved you, Love one another.
This new commandment: Love one another.
By this shall men know Ye are my disciples,
If ye have love One to another.
Sincerely,
|

For any of you that served in Nagano ward, I was hoping someone knew how to contact Takashi Wada. I kept in touch with him up through his mission to Salt Lake City South, BYU, and then his job with Universal Studios, but now I've lost him. I'd love to give him a call or an email to catch up, maybe even go for a visit. If you know how to contact him ask him to get in touch with me, PLEASE!
Thank you.

Several inquires have been made on the lds-j Japan mailing list, so far the only thing mentioned has been that some members that were stuck traveling were staying with local members due to the damage to the rail networks. As the Niigata area is still a Mission District under the direction of the Sendai Mission, I presume that official emergency member coordination is being handled through that office with the direction from the Area PBO.

I spent 14 months of my mission in Niigata Ken, (Sanjo, Niigata and Nagaoka). I know that this area is in the Sendai Mission now but does anyone know how the members are in this area after the earthquake?

It doesn't seem possible that it has been 20 years since we were in Japan serving with the greatest missionaries! We have been separated by time and space but you have never been separated from our hearts.
Now it is time to join together again and celebrate the mission experience that brought us together. Thanks to Elder van der Leek a reunion is in progress and scheduled for Friday, April 1, 2005, in Salt Lake City. We are eager to see each of you. The greatest challenge we have is finding everyone. Please spread the word to any returned missionaries you are in contact with. Have them log on to the web site and register so they can receive all of the reunion information. This is a trememdous task but one well worth the time and effort.
We look forward to this wonderful reunion with great anticipation. What a joy to see you again!
Much love, The Ogden's

Thank you for your input, I have found a place for this individual to stay.

Does anyone have a contact(s) in the Tokyo area that could accomodate a single guest to stay in the country for about 2 weeks? I have tried to find someone that could allow a friend of mine (18 year-old church member from the Salt Lake Valley) that wants to visit Japan but is on a very tight budget. Please let me know if you have any contacts that may help out by letting him stay with them for a short time. Contact me at tom(DOT)christenson(AT)ingenix(DOT)com. Thanks

Do the senkyoshi still do burger runs? Also has the Riding of the elders rodeo style stopped?

I'll be moving up to Provo/Orem on or about April 21, and like every other student, I need a good job (which I know is hard to come by in Provo!) If anyone can hook me up with info., that would be great. I'd like to start out at least $8.00 per hour. (info. for full and/or part time requested.) Thanks.

Two things to let you know about. First, the Annual Northern Far East Mission Newsletter is now available on the JTNM Site. The newsletter contains a lot of information on what is currently happening with regard to missionary work throughout Japan and the focus of the new Area Presidency. It is very interesting! I recommend you take the time to read it.
Secondly, a new poll is added to the JTNM site. Please provide your feedback on Site Notifications. Your comments and or vote results will help steer the direction of the development of the alumni site.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Day of Prayer and Fasting! It was wonderful to see the participation of so many people throughout the world. We will do this again, probably on the anniversary date of the dedication of Japan for missionary work.

Trench coat with a liner might look good. However alot of mission folk go to something like a parka style coat. Easier to use when riding the mamachari.
|
|
I thought my London Fog Trench coat with a liner worked fine. I never had any problems with it on any of the bikes I had.
|
|
My son enters the MTC next Wednesday. We are just about all ready. We'd like to go ahead and buy a winter coat now because there are a lot on clearance this time of year. I was imagining a long
dark dress coat. My mother says those are too hard to wear on a bike. Can anyone advise us about this? What works best in this mission?
Will we regret buying it now? Thanks for your help!

I have not been back to Japan since my mission ended in 1996, but my wife and I would like to attend the wedding of a dear member friend of ours in May of this year. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of any good travel deals or agencies that would allow us to purchase airfare and rail passes at discounted rates? The wedding will take place in the Fukuoka Temple, but we will probably fly into Narita so we can visit some old areas in the mission. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Hi! I served in Nagoya '95-97 and am living in Shizuoka. I have been teaching English here for four years but am going back to the States later this year. I'm looking for someone who wants to take my job. It's an ALT position at a private high school in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka (literally next to Mt. Fuji.) The ward here (Fuji Ward) is great. I'm the ward mission leader and teach Sunday School. This is a great job for a returned missionary who wants an opportunity to be active in a Japanese ward. The bishop of the ward also works here. It pays 300,000 yen a month, plus as 300,000 bonus twice a year. There's also a housing subsidy. I have a new apartment big enough for two that I've only been in for 8 months. I also have a car you can have. All you need is a college degree to get the appropriate visa. It's a great job! E-mail me for more info.

If you recognize Payne Choro, or served in the best mission in Japan from 1989-1991 drop me a line. There were many wonderful chorotachi and shimaitachi that I worked with that I lost touch with. I also worked with a few duds, and you know who you are. It's been over 10 years, so I was just wondering where y'all got to?
