| Comments: Sophie and I have been married since 2000 and have two children: Valentine (2002) and Sanford (2004). I work as an economist at the OECD in Paris and I focus on telecommunication markets across the 30 OECD countries. I spend a good deal of time trying to figure out why Korea does so well with broadband and mobile phone networks and how other countries can replicate their success. I'm lucky because I get to go back to Korea periodically for work but I feel as if it's not often enough. I always bring back banana milk and kimbap smuggled in my luggage for Sophie. She's a huge fan. (I must note that she has leveled a ban on any more "insam" candy though). It's funny because I vividly remember worrying that I'd never see the country again as my plane took off to take me home from the mission. I hoped I'd get back someday but didn't know how. Luckily my choice of jobs has helped be get back there typically once a year. When I get to go back I always try to meet friends from the mission like Jang JeongSu from JeonJu. It's a small world of Korean missionaries too. We arrived here in France in 2004 only to find that our Bishop is an American who served his mission in Pusan and works at the same place I do - as the country expert for Korea and Japan. If any of your are coming through Paris, please let us know. We'd love to have you over. | |
