May 31, 2006 Dear Missionaries of the Korea Taejon Mission 1989-1992 Time has slipped quickly away in 2006 so far. We have been focusing upon welcoming three new grandchildren into our family during the last three months. Now we feel a need to move quickly to organize our missionary reunion. We have felt that Saturday, September 2nd would be a good time since it will give some of you who are living away, a three-day holiday that may help with travel. I have tentatively scheduled my stake center in case we may have difficulty getting a place reserved for a large group on Labor Day weekend. We are going to be out of town for the next three weeks, and then home for most of the summer. We felt we should initiate this letterl for scheduling the reunion and request your help at this time so that you could have as much time as possible to plan your own schedules. However, any responses from you will not be answered for at least 3 weeks as we will be away from any computer. We are writing to get some help with different committees to do planning. We feel certain that all of us want to have some yummy Korean food there. We are asking that you please do the following: 1) Respond if you & your family can come (please tell us # of adults & children w/ages). 2) If you know of other companions’ e-mail addresses, please forward this announcement to them and send their e-mail address to us and the Publicity Committee. 3) If possible, please sign up for a committee assignment. (With the use of internet, we believe each committee can function without face to face meetings) 4) Tell us what suggestions you might have for fun things to do, or to see in displays, etc. Please use this address for reporting to Sister Cole and myself: charlene_cole1@yahoo.com Telephone: (801) 225-1430 Here are some of the committees that will need to be organized: Publicity: (Connecting all returned missionaries with each other; giving the information about the reunion, location, map, dress, what to bring, etc. Also, at the reunion have a way of having all missionaries list their e-mail addresses so we can keep connected in the future.) Information: (Receiving messages from all returned missionaries who may not be able to come and to put those messages into some format so attendees will be able to see what those not able to attend may be doing. Perhaps prepare a short information item on each missionary and make it available to all return missionaries. Activities: (There is a large, recreational grass area with a gazebo and picnic tables where we can have some organized activities for the children, some would have to plan the activities and consider the appropriate treats for those who participate) Food: (Since we expect a large number, we would expect that this committee will prepare the Korean food for a dinner or lunch–this will take a lot of hands and some serious expertise) Set-Up: (Coming early, setting up the cultural hall with displays, picture albums, video or other things they have decided and to have the Korean 50th Commemoration of the Dedication of the land for Preaching the Gospel DVD being played, etc.) Clean-up: (Taking down and putting away all of the items used for the displays, food tables and chairs, cleaning the floor, kitchen, removing the garbage, etc. and preparing the building for the Sabbath) Hosting: (Prepares name tags, makes sure there is some kind of sign-up for attendance, distributes the agenda for the day, has places for mothers to relax with new babies, perhaps sets up some small child play place, etc.) Finance: (Establishes cost, notifies all who participate of cost, collects funds, deposits and pays to those who purchase things, so that no one is caught with a debt that we have not covered). Program: (Determines if there is a formal program, identifies an agenda for the reunion; has a person who conducts, has people to pray, bless food, lead and accompany hymns, etc according to their decisions) Housing: (Helps those coming from out of town to find a place to stay, sets up connections with those having space with those needing a place to stay during the weekend.). We recognize that this may be later in coming than you may have expected–but we believe that with as much time as we have, we will be able to have a wonderful reunion. Thanks for responding, and for passing this along to other who you may know. Sincerely yours, Ross & Charlene Cole |
