| At times, I feel like I am out of place. I say "soddy" instead of "sorry", and I write incessantly to missionaries and friends still in korea. I get emotional or very excited, and nobody can understand what I am saying. I miss having someone to study the scriptures with and joking over breakfast with. I bought a shower sprayer because it "feels right". Do you feel the same way? Well, here are a few things I know you can relate to. I am way out in Georgia, but I feel like I can reminisce with SOMEBODY;) You know you were right at home in Korea when: 1. A roll of toilet paper at the dinner table doesn't bother you. 2. You like to cut your noodles with scissors. 3. You don't even notice misspelled signs in English. 4. You say,"O-ra-i, O-ra-i" when you're helping your bud back up the car. 5. You have kimchi and rice for breakfast. 6. You start to dig bands that have acronyms as names(PINKL, GOD,...) 7. You wear a white mask when it gets cold. 8. You hate Japan for no apparent reason. 9. You bow incessantly. 10. You look for a Lotteria when in Georgia. 11. Whenever you are surprised you say"aigo" or "cham". 12. U.S. dollars look small in physical size, and you begin comparing price differences;"it was--in korea" 13. You understand what they are trying to sell through the loudspeaker in that truck that drives by your house every morning, noon, and night. 14. You don't say "yes", you just grunt. 15. You bring along your own chopsticks when you go to McD's 16. Korean cops no longer look like Boyscouts. 17. You get irritated when others try to pronounce the automobile names;"hyundai", "daewoo"... 18. You thinnk it's odd that the bus driver doesn't play the radio loudly while racing at breakneck speeds. 19. You're 5 foot 7 inches and you think you are a giant. 20. You snap your gum in public. 21. Your midnight snack consists of cold rice and fish heads. 22. You are not surprised when after climbing up a mountain for 2 hours, you run into a woman in heels and a young man in a tie. 23. You ask your friends when they will move into their new " apate". 24. Someone bumps into you, apologizes, and you retort, "No problem eda". 25. Your favorite exclamation is "Ai-go, jook get da". 26. You are searching out dried ojingo to munch on. 27. You try to figure out what to call a kyool in english so you can buy its closest cousin 28. You refuse to fix your glasses because you insist that you will be going back to korea to buy a new pair for $30. :) 29. You cannot express yourself as well because things make more sense in korean, anyway. "At-da!" I hope you laugh and remember all the good times, and especially remember how much you love those wonderful korean members and strangers. Keep them in your prayers. | |
